Opportunity Type: Half-time to Full-time Family Physician

Type of Remuneration – Sessional funding
The Newcomer Health Clinic is seeking a Family Physician to join this collaborative team consisting of Family Physicians, Registered Nurses, Dietitian, Social Work, Administration Support, and various visiting Specialists (Pediatrics, Psychiatry, etc). The Newcomer Health Clinic has a focused mandate to support newly arrived refugees during their first 1-2 years in Canada (ideally). Patients are supported with finding and transitioning to a family practice in the community. Interpretive services are well integrated into clinical processes and covered by provincial government.
Previous experience or education in refugee health or global health is an asset but not necessary. Our team is very supportive and readily available to help learn the ropes. No matter how busy the clinic is, new physicians are always encouraged to knock on a colleague’s door if they have any questions. The most important asset is compassion. ResponsibilitiesExamine patients and take their histories, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures
Advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention
Consultation and referral to other medical practitioners
Act as a patient’s advocate
Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations
Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements
Expected Hours
Part time to full time - to be discussed with clinic.
QualificationsEligible for Licensure with the (CPSNS)
Eligible for certification with the (CFPC)
