Contract Position

Under the direction of the HWDSB Community Engagement Officer, and working with the Focus on Youth (FOY) Program Lead, the Program Assistant role models leadership principles and supports the training, supervision and ongoing capacity building of secondary students hired through the Focus on Youth program.

**Duties include, but are not limited to**:
Support the Focus on Youth Program Lead in the coordination of interviews, hiring and orientation of HWDSB secondary students for placement in the Focus on Youth program

Support the Focus on Youth Program Lead in the coordination of interviews, hiring and orientation of FOY Program Monitors for placement in the Focus on Youth program

Support the FOY Program Lead and Program Monitors to develop, deliver and evaluate pre-employment training in accordance with HWDSB polices/procedures and applicable legislation for approximately 100 Focus on Youth student employees

Collaborate with FOY Program Lead and Program Monitors to provide relevant supports to students to ensure their successful completion of the program

Ensure the safety and success of students participating in the program through adherence and understanding of HWDSB policies and procedures, applicable legislation and program expectations

Oversee payroll completion and submission for all FOY Lead Staff and students

Assist with the preparation of program final reports

The successful applicant will require the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the program and its participants

**Qualifications**:
Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program in education, community engagement, social work, child and youth work, or other related field(s)

Demonstrated experience supervising and supporting children and youth, preferably in a community program setting

Experience facilitating training and development to a youth audience

Demonstrated understanding (gained through lived and professional experience) of issues affecting underserved groups and working with diverse communities using anti-colonial, anti-oppressive and anti-racist lens, culturally relevant and responsive approaches

Experience coordinating or supporting mental health initiatives/training

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and multitasking abilities

Ability to plan and implement programming in a virtual setting

Proven interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage, problem solve and work efficiently with a diverse group of stakeholders

Demonstrated experience working collaboratively as a member of a team to provide appropriate and proactive support and services

Demonstrated ability to lead consistently and provide objective evaluation

Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector) valid within 6 months

Must have access to reliable transportation

Knowledge of HWDSB organizational structures, programs and policies is considered an asset
