Braemar Retirement Centre (MacGowan Nursing Home) is an accredited 69 bed licensed Long Term Care facility located in Wingham, Ontario. Braemar is a proud RNAO Best Practice Spotlight organization and is working towards becoming a DementiAbility certified home who aims to provide a collaborative, person-centered environment for staff and residents alike.
We are excited to announce we currently have openings for professional, enthusiastic, compassionate Lead Chef to join our team. Responsible to the Nutrition Manager, the Lead Chef will fulfill the role of cook as well as assist to supervise, direct and coordinate the activities of cooks and dietary aides who prepare, portion and serve food within the home in an effort to ensure the effective and efficient preparation and delivery of quality meals and refreshments to all residents and guests within legislative and budgetary constraints and in alignment with all pleasurable dining and infection control considerations.

Provides supervision and direction in the management and operation of all Food Preparation processes and service in collaboration with the Nutrition Manager
Estimate and inventory ingredients and supplies required for meal preparation.
Establish task routines and procedures in collaboration with the Nutrition Manager
Maintain records of stock, and wastage
Train staff in job duties, and sanitation and safety procedures
Supervise assembly of regular and special diets and delivery of food
Ensure that food and service meet quality control standards.
Assist in menu planning in collaboration with the Nutrition Manger
Collaboratively with Nutrition Services Manager, plans and coordinates training and education programs.
Participates in Resident related activities (RAI MDS, Interdisciplinary Care Conferences, Resident Food Committee, other as appropriate), in the absence of Nutrition Services Manager
Ensures food production and service is in compliance with all applicable Acts and regulations.
Complete weekly food ordering within budgetary constraints in absence of Nutrition Services Manager
Ensures work areas are maintained in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
Ensures proper care and use of equipment, tools and supplies are maintained.
Maintains an inventory and a system for rotating all emergency supplies.
Is actively involved in the Quality Monitoring of the department.
Participates in committee meetings, i.e. Infection Control, Quality Improvement/Risk Management, Fire Safety, Skin/Wound Care Meeting, Occupational Health & Safety and others as required &/or Requested
Other duties and responsibilities as outlined by the Nutrition Services Manager.
Qualifications:
Successful completion of a Red Seal Chef Certification
Previous supervision experience in institutional food service, preferably long-term care setting-minimum of 3 years preferred.
Effective active listening skills
Effective written and oral communications skills
Computer skills (proficiency in Word, Excel, Point Click Care )
Excellent time management skills
Policies & Procedures - demonstrates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies and procedures.
Demonstrate leadership and organizational skills.
Be able to tolerate periods of standing or walking.
Be able to lift 30 lbs.
