**Responsibilities**:
The Research Manager oversees and allocates work assignments and functions to support a program, research project, department or other business unit. The incumbent will participate in the development of processes, provide expertise in response to client needs, and offer support and advice for process improvements or modified client services. The Research Manager will support the implementation of a variety of strategies, systems and procedures. The incumbent will serve as a principal source of information regarding administrative functions, and will monitor, provide analysis, information and reports for review and forecasting. The Manager will also participate in hiring, developing, scheduling and overseeing staff.
**Responsibilities/Duties**:
Working closely with the Imaging Research Lab Director and the Imaging Scientists.
- The Research Manager is responsible for managing Ontario Research Funds for the Imaging Lab including assistance with new ORF grant submissions & budgets for future proposals;
- The incumbent will be responsible for writing ORF Annual reports in collaboration with the Scientists, co-investigators and consortia partners.
- Work closely with corporate sponsors to ensure matching funds are secured to match in ORF grants;
- Manage Imaging related events: including, Summer Student Lectures lunch seminar series, workshops, retreats and outreach events;
- The manager will handle purchase orders, Rola’s, HR database staff changes, core billings, and expense reports for the Imaging Scientists including any related action items.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- Undergraduate Degree in relevant area of focus and/or equivalent experience/education in Accounting or Medical Technician/Research program
**Experience**:
- 5 years' administrative and financial grant management experience, including extensive knowledge of Ontario Research Funds (ORF RE) grant proposals.
- 5 years’ experience working in an academic research or fundraising environment with faculty, researchers, and industry partners
- 5 years’ experience identifying, developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with industry / corporate partners
- Experience preparing and writing research grants and/or funding proposals would be an asset
- Experience developing and managing budgets and aligning budgets with strategy is preferred
- Experience managing staff and projects; experience with strategy implementation and operationalization preferred
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Knowledge of the best practices for reviewing grant proposals and of Canadian peer-review granting systems, processes and procedures
- Ability to develop and manage budgets and ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
- Ability to understand researchers needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations
- Strong research and quantitative analytical skills, including excellent knowledge of granting agencies
- Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office with an **advanced proficiency in Excel.**:
- Strong track record in organizing successful events, such as research symposia, retreats, seminar series and workshops.
- In-depth knowledge of principles of writing, including grammar and style, argument, and coherence with proficiency in copy editing
- Strong grant writing skills and the ability to analyze key metrics
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage activities both for self and others effectively
- Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
- Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines, and the ability to plan and execute budgetary control
