The Ktunaxa Nation Council has an opportunity for Water Quality Biologist in Cranbrook BC. Reporting to the Director of Lands and Resources, the opportunity is suited for someone who will enjoy conservation and stewardship of water and aquatic ecosystems to contribute to a positive outcome for the Ktunaxanin̓tik as a whole.

The water quality biologist is responsible for ensuring that the interests of the Ktunaxa First Nations are fully considered in protecting and restoring water quality throughout ?amak?is Ktunaxa, particularly in the Elk River watershed. The position is also responsible for managing or supporting environmental research, monitoring and restoration initiatives on behalf of Ktunaxa’s work to steward fisheries, water and aquatic ecosystems and to develop community stewardship capacity. The water quality biologist will participate on the behalf of the Ktunaxa First Nations on these issues and engage with industry, provincial and federal regulators through working groups or committees.

This is a full-time permanent position with full benefits.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with KNC policies, standards, and procedures, and as directed by the Ktunaxa Nation Council.
- Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the Ktunaxa Nation Council.
- Engage with proponents to implement protection of aquatic resources in development proposals, particularly relating to mining projects.
- Prepare technical submissions on water quality and aquatic ecosystem issues and concerns to assist the Ktunaxa Nation and Ktunaxa communities in protection of aquatic resources.
- Participate in collaborative efforts amongst the KNC, industry, government and non-government organizations to protect and restore water quality and aquatic ecosystems.
- Provide environmental impact assessment and referral reviews for the KNC and Ktunaxa communities.
- Present technical information at Ktunaxa meetings, public forums, meetings, and conferences as they relate to the duties and responsibilities of the Water Quality Biologist as requested. Ensure technical information is presented in suitable language for intended audience.

**Key Requirements**:

- Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in aquatic biology, chemistry or related discipline
- Preferred Master of Science Degree in aquatic biology, chemistry or related discipline
- Professional Registered Biologist Designation (or eligible for designation)
- Minimum of three to five (3 - 5) years of related work experience.
- Knowledge of aquatic ecology, water quality and fisheries biology
- Experience coordinating and organizing project activities within a budget.
- Advanced computer skills in MS Word and Excel and statistical analysis programs
- Proven proposal writing skills
- BC and Canadian regulations related to water quality and aquatic resources
- Water quality monitoring and sampling
- Sampling design and statistical analysis
- Experience in environmental impact assessment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills (facilitation, mediation, negotiation, leadership)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- **Must have a valid Driver's License**
