**HISTORIC COSTUME SPECIALIST**

SALARY RANGE: $24.80 to $27.51 per hour

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: April to September

Group 3 seasonal recurring

HOURS OF WORK: 36.25 hours per week

LOCATION: Upper Canada Village, 11 km east of Morrisburg, Ontario

**WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?**

You will:

- Organize and operate a costume department that reproduces 19th century clothing and accessories worn by all interpretive staff at Upper Canada Village
- Reproduce 19th century household accessories for use in Upper Canada Village.
- Allocate historical costuming and corporate uniforms and oversee their usage and maintenance.
- Support Upper Canada Village programs and customer service initiatives, including performing the duties associated with the delivery and instruction of experiential programming to children under the age of 18.
- Provide group presentations on 19th century clothing.
- Assist in the management of hand projects.
- Ensure the safety of visitors and staff and protect the resources of the site.
- Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.

**HOW DO I QUALIFY?**

MANDATORY:
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
You have:

- Knowledge of 19th century clothing, accessories, fabrics, footwear, etc.
- Completed technical training in sewing and sewing instructions or applicable sewing experience.
- The ability to perform all types of sewing, including duplication of historical methods, ability to draft patterns from original garments, pictorial, and other sources.
- The ability to duplicate historical construction techniques.

CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
You have:

- The ability to speak and present information to a variety of groups of varied ages and backgrounds, including staff and visitors.

ORGANIZATIONAL AND RESEARCH SKILLS:
You have:

- The ability to maintain records of the allocation of historical clothing to employees.
- The ability to research 19th century clothing, footwear and accessories.
