**PURPOSE OF POSITION**
The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) is looking for a graduate or senior undergraduate student to work as Assistant to the Editor in Chief of its flagship magazine, **bout de papier**.

The key role of the Assistant to the Editor is to identify and secure sources for potential articles to appear in the magazine.

**DETAILS**
**Duties**
The position will report to the Editor in Chief of **bout de papier** to identify and secure sources of articles that will be published in the magazine. Duties include:

- building a network of contributors such as academics, journalists, PAFSO members (active and retired), or freelance writers;
- liaising and collaborating with the Editor in Chief and the Deputy Editor in Chief in order to create lists of topics for potential articles;
- ensure a representative balance of sources in terms of language, backgrounds and demographic indicators;
- reviewing submissions and performing an initial proofreading to prepare articles for review by the Editor in Chief; and
- other related duties as required.

8 May to 25 August 2023.

Competitive with the Government of Canada student rates.

**Qualifications**
At least three years of undergraduate study in a relevant field such as journalism, history, literature or communications with a demonstrated interest in international affairs, geopolitics, and foreign policy.

**Personal suitability**
A self-starter with excellent editing skills and a strong and demonstrated interest in journalism, foreign policy, and international affairs. Excellent written communications skills in either English or French are essential, and bilingualism is an asset.

**Eligibility**
This position is open to Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents. Regular PAFSO members and the spouses or dependents of current Executive Committee members are not eligible.

**bout de papier** (boutdepapier.ca) is the flagship magazine of the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO). Since its inception in the 1970s, it has been Canada’s premier magazine devoted to covering issues related to diplomacy and foreign affairs from the perspective of Canadian Foreign Service personnel, members of Canada’s foreign policy establishment, as well as members of the international community. **bout de papier** is the best vehicle to share the stories and the amazing work of Canada’s professional Foreign Service.

**bout de papier**, PAFSO’s most visible outreach tool, is published three times a year. The publication currently has a circulation of 2,800, with approximately 6,000 readers. Opinions expressed in **bout de papier** are not necessarily those of PAFSO.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 4 months

**Salary**: $20.00 per hour
