Position Summary:
The Simulation Centre Research Assistant will provide organization and oversight during the infrastructure development phase (Year 1) and the implementation phase (Year 2) of the new Simulation Centre for the School of Social Work at McGill University. The role of the incumbent is primarily planning, coordination, as well as oversight of the Simulation Centre functioning. The Research Assistant will assist the creation of internal processes for managing the Simulation Centre and will be in contact with clinicians, students and professors involved in using the Centre. Due to the nascent phase of the Simulation Centre, this position requires exceptional organizational skills, responsiveness to key stakeholders and students, and the ability to work autonomously.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plans and develops needs assessment for faculty, students, and other relevant parties regarding their needs for the Simulation Centre.
- Analyses the data from the needs assessment and presents results to help supervisors establish an overall direction for the Simulation Centre (e.g., a stepped plan).
- Designs protocols for requests and scheduling of the Sim Centre and the general direction of the project.
- Uses experience in social work and clinical practice to support faculty and partners design and organize simulations.
- Develops feedback mechanisms for faculty, staff, partners, and students to use following each simulation.
- Works autonomously and focuses on established objectives while recognizing unanticipated opportunities in the course of a project.
Minimum Education and Experience:
An MSW and at least 5 years work experience in social work in more than one area (i.e., case management, group work, crisis intervention, therapeutic or counselling work).
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Proficiency in Excel and Word is needed for this position. Ability to understand and respond to the learning needs of Social Work and Couple and Family Therapy students. Ability to interact professionally and effectively with the University community and external contacts. Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure, find quick solutions, and juggle a variety of priorities in a high-volume environment. Ability to meet deadlines. Spoken and written English and French.
Annual Salary:
Commensurate with experience, established according to AMURE’s pay scale.
