**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Director, Clinical Research, the Research Contracts Specialist is responsible for reviewing, drafting and negotiation of legally binding (clinical) research contracts and agreements with industrial, non-profit, academic, hospital and other partners and service providers. The role is responsible for providing guidance related to current or proposed contracts in relation to regulatory and legal obligations and potential risk exposure and for providing educational opportunities to clinical researchers and research staff.

Accountabilities:

- Prepare and negotiate legal agreements for research studies (clinical study agreements, confidentiality agreements, sub site/grant and collaboration agreements, material transfer, data sharing, etc.) to minimize risk to the hospital and research participants and ensure that contractual provisions comply with all hospital policies, guidelines on conducting research and legislative requirements
- Liaise with key internal stakeholders such as the Research Ethics Board, research financial services, research managers, principal investigators and senior management for briefing and decision-making
- Liaise with research managers on contract budgets - provide budgets and keep track of negotiations between manager and sponsor to ensure a successful negotiation and only execute an agreement when budget is final
- Finalize the agreement and coordinate with the external party to obtain executed copies of the contract
- Maintains strong relationships with faculty, researchers, hospital staff, and outside industry sponsors
- Acquires and maintains knowledge of Hospital's policies and procedures applicable to industry sponsored clinical research, and other academic and professional standards for the conduct and administration of industry-sponsored clinical research
- Maintains databases in support of the contract team
- Transfers data onto online reporting system and/or spreadsheets
- Compiles, prints and distributes periodic reports and other information as needed

**Qualifications**:

- At minimum, a law degree or paralegal background with related experience or a master’s degree or recognized equivalent
- Minimum three years of practical and related experience with at least two years of experience drafting, interpreting and negotiating agreements
- Experience with clinical trial agreements, data transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, etc. is preferred
- Ability to manage and prioritize projects simultaneously
- Ability to efficiently communicate, write, edit, analyze, negotiate and problem solve
- Familiarity with and/or experience in contracts or in an academic research environment is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills
- Experience in a Microsoft Office environment preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills required
- Attention to detail/analytical thinking and excellent organizational abilities required
- Ability to manage personal timelines and priorities with mínimal supervision required
