We are currently seeking a talented Safety Advisor/Lead _(mostly office based in the South Edmonton / Leduc area, with a few days in the field each month visiting our project sites across Western Canada)_, to assist in managing our safety programming and reporting for all operational sites including project sites nationally. This individual will have a critical role keeping our team safe and ensuring that all of our staff are able to enjoy a great living without sacrificing their own health.
**Responsibilities and Duties**
- Support the development, implementation, and measurement of health and safety programs.
- Leverage and implement our Safety Management program with all areas of the business, with an eye on meeting or exceeding performance expectations for your role in conjunction with the safety program.
- Coach and mentor Operations staff to the requirements of the safety program
- Measure and report adoption and implementation metrics of our health and safety programs by inspecting or reviewing worksites, equipment, processes, and other activities.
- Conduct thorough and effective incident investigations and reports as needed.
- Support worksite pre-planning and mobilization activities.
- Participate in emergency response preparation and exercises.
- Support safety related training and competency assessment for supervisors and field employees
- Assist operations in meeting all of the requirements of the safety program, incident response program, and injury management program.
- Adhere to the SMS Performance expectations.
- Provide technical knowledge and authoring of health and safety standards in compliance with federal and provincial regulations and industry standards
- Compile, communicate and explain leading and lagging statistical indicators to applicable operations groups.
- Maintain confidentiality for private information obtained through performance of job functions.
**Experience and Training Requirements**
- 3+ years experience of construction safety advising experience ideally with a blend of in office administrative and field safety advising responsibilities.
- Accredited safety designation (diploma or certification) in Occupational Health and Safety, National Construction Safety, Safety engineering or other equivalencies.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian OHS safety Legislation and regulations.
- Experienced in MS Office Suite and other business software.
- Ability to be organized, prioritize tasks, and manage changing priorities and processes.
- Strong analytical, accuracy, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality.
**Ideal qualifications**
- Knowledge of civil construction safety programming and administration
- Experience working in cloud-based safety software and reporting systems.
- Experience working with safety in an industrial environment.
- Operational experience in construction or oilfield work.
- Proficient in understanding, applying, and communicating safety statistics in a meaningful way to the business.
**Environment**
- Work hours: typically, normal business hours, Monday to Friday
- Travel to field locations including remote areas will be required using a company provided vehicle. Current anticipated of travel is 3-6 days per month on field project sites and the remainder office based.
**Compensation**
We offer a competitive pay scale for the successful applicant starting with a base salary ($70-80K), full benefits plan, paid vacation, as well as potential annual bonus pay.
