**Accounting Technician 1 - Payroll**:

**The Role**:
This position is an entry-level position that provides support to all areas of Payroll and Finance including, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. Utilizing formal education in finance, accounting, and payroll, this position will provide backup to the Payroll Administrator and other Accounting Technician I positions, and will provide general support for both the Payroll & Finance teams.. Primary duties include:
**Accounting**:

- Assists with all Accounting Technician responsibilities, taking on important and time consuming routine tasks.
- Insures invoices and requisitions for goods and services comply with financial policies and procedures.
- Prepares and enters batches of invoices for data entry in a timely and accurate manner.
- Completes cheque and electronic file transfer (EFT) runs.
- Reconciles electronic fund deposits.
- Balances cash floats and petty cash.
- Completes monthly reconciliations of internal office charges and eco card administration.
- Maintains the Finance department filing.

**Payroll**:

- Reviews Board expense claims for completeness, accuracy, and enters data into the payroll system.
- Reviews meal expenses, identifies taxable expenses, and enters data into the payroll system.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**

**Education and Experience**:

- Accounting Technician Diploma and/or Payroll Compliance Certification (PCP); and a minimum one-year experience in a similar accounting or payroll position.

**Skills and Abilities**:

- Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of processing payroll.
- Knowledge of legislative requirements.
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software applicable to basic accounting; experience with Vadim or an integrated Payroll/HRIS would be an asset.
- Knowledge of record keeping methods.
- Intermediate knowledge Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when working with data.
- Strong ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively on own and within a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks with sensitivity for deadlines.
- Ability to make calculations with speed and accuracy and to adhere to rigid time schedules.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to verify data and run reports.
- Ability to organize work and set priorities.
- Ability to provide helpful and courteous client service.

This position falls under the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 900. The placement of the Accounting Technician I is at Pay Grade 3, which is $1,906.41 to $2,188.94 biweekly.
