Summer Camp Counsellors

Easter Seals BC in the Okanagan (Camp Winfield), Vancouver Island (Camp Shawnigan) and Squamish (Camp Squamish) is looking for motivated, outgoing and enthusiastic Summer Camp Counsellors that are engaging and high energy for our Overnight Summer Camp for children 6-18 and adults 19-49 with various disabilities.

Easter Seals has 3 Summer Camp locations providing a fun and recreation based camp. Our campers experience a variety of activities and programming: swimming, sports & games, arts & crafts, big swings, trampolines, ropes courses, canoeing, sailing, camp fires, life skills, leadership skills and more.
- Camp Winfield/Camp Shawnigan dates: June 14 to August 9
- Camp Squamish dates: June 21 to August 16

Camp Counsellors should feel comfortable working with children and adults with cognitive and physical disabilities. Counsellors will form a buddy group with 6 campers and operate as a family unit for each week. Training will be provided prior to start of Summer Camp.

All applicants must:

- Be at least 18 years of age by the first day of camp, and be able to provide a clean criminal record check.
- Be available and wanting to work for the duration of the summer camp contract
- Be motivated and have high energy throughout the day
- Follow curriculum as well as create new games for campers on a daily basis
- Embody our goal to provide our community with the self-esteem, self-confidence and sense of independence that is needed to help them live their best life

Some responsibilities include:

- Attend to camper’s emotional wellbeing, ensuring they feel secure, comfortable and welcome
- Attend to campers’ personal needs
- Be familiar with the assigned campers’ special medical conditions and/or behavioral issues and act accordingly
- Encourage camper’s independence and recognise and utilise potential for personal growth
- Participate in all camp activities
- Develop activities outside of scheduled program periods
- Mentor and manage volunteer counsellors

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 3 months

**Salary**: $128.96 per day
