**Position** **Purpose**:
System Control Planners are accountable to provide support ensuring the safe, reliable, efficient and effective real-time operation of the distribution system, and are responsible for outage coordination and planning activities. They are also responsible for providing Operations support in the areas of reliability and performance reporting, system configuration status, and system planning.

**Responsibilities**:

- Responsible for efficiently coordinating planned maintenance and construction activities, equipment outages, outage schedules and testing that affects the distribution network.
- Create contingency plans for approved equipment outages that may having significant impact to the system
- Provides support to Network Operations and Services.
- Ensure that work is completed in compliance with applicable safety rules, work protection, policies, procedures and practices
- Prepare a manageable daily work schedule which takes into consideration workload, manpower, equipment loadings and device ratings, system configuration and any other pertinent information available.
- Prepare a job package (folder) for the System Controllers, explaining in detail the switching plan, required documents and schedule for each planned job
- Participate in job planning meetings with other departments and outside agencies, some of which will require site visits
- Receive and review customer outage requests by Customer Support group
- Maintain a working knowledge of day-to-day operations and upcoming planned work to provide operating continuity
- Maintain the accuracy of the daily report of Alectra interruptions and load transfers
- Assist System Control personnel with preparation and checking of switching and Work Protection documents as required
- Follow-up with System Control personnel to ensure that all planned switching is completed as scheduled and report any issues encountered
- Ensure System Control records, procedures, reference manuals and any other pertinent materials are kept current
- Follow up on system deficiencies by using the escalation process of notifying the involved groups.
- Validate all issued project drawings, by reconciling with OMS and SCADA records.
- Maintain an awareness of significant problems with service to customers and advise management when necessary
- Assist in maintaining Reliability Statistics and day-to-day capacities as required
- Preparation of various performance reports related to reliability and planning activities
- Track and report on progress of long-term projects, delays and overlapping issues
- Be responsible for all pre-planning activities involving Hydro One and the IESO
- Coordinate planned work activities related to transmission, distribution, and operating support
- Provide real time planning, coordination, and operating support during contingency events
- Establish a strong working relationship with the Reliability group
- Be prepared to step into any position on shift as a System Controller or Senior System Controller during contingencies.
- Provide post event support
- Participates in and support corporate transition efforts

**Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Competencies**

**Education**
- Certified Engineering Technologist 3-Year College Diploma in an electrical discipline

- MEARIE Certificate as a Journeyperson Municipal Electrical Operator
- Certification in the IHSA Utility Work Protection Code
- Valid class G driver’s license

**Specialized knowledge**
- Required ability to read, interpret and utilize technical prints and schematics
- Knowledge of Alectra, and customer-specific, asset operating capabilities, limits and restrictions
- Understands the overall outage planning practices and processes
- Knowledge of Alectra Distribution system is ideal

**Experience**
- Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related electrical operating experience
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of electrical operating experience within an Alectra Control Room
