Roots Community Services Inc. (RootsCS) is a multi-service charitable organization that provides culturally-relevant programs and services to empower and inspire individuals, primarily from the Black, African and Caribbean (BAC) communities, to make positive changes in their lives and within their communities. Our aim is to assist our clients by providing pathways for them to achieve their full potential and assist them in finding solutions to improve their health, well-being and quality of life, and to heal from the trauma that inhibits their lives.

The Children, Youth & Family Counsellor will be responsible for delivering culturally-sensitive intervention, navigation and support to youth and their families referred by Halton CAS.

**Major Duties and Responsibilities**

These will include but are not limited to:

- Provide skilled assessment and treatment services to youth and their families/caregivers
- Develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive treatment plans according to individual client and family/caregiver needs
- Collaborate with other professionals and community resources to ensure effective service delivery on behalf of each client
- Be knowledgeable in a variety of evidence-informed treatment modalities including anti-Black racism, anti-oppression and other culturally-sensitive approaches to intervention
- Ensure the availability of required information for all clients by maintaining concise case records, summary reports and data in a timely manner
- Collaborate with other professionals from partner organizations and collate community resources to ensure effective service delivery on behalf of each client
- Effectively assess, manage, design and implement a plan to ensure safety of the client
- Organize group sessions on a monthly basis comprising seminars/workshops and presentations
- Conduct family sessions and provide advocacy and support to families
- Participate in quality improvement and program evaluation initiatives
- Be knowledgeable of and adhere to agency policies and procedures as well as relevant legislation for children’s services
- Prepare surveys and obtain feedback/ comments from clients to gauge effectiveness of service
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of the RootsCS team with staff, volunteers and community partners to meet the objectives of this project

**Qualifications & Requirements**:

- Master’s degree in Social Work or related discipline
- Three years clinical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proof of registration and a member in good standing in a professional college (e.g., College of Psychotherapists, Social Workers, Counselling)
- Understand community resources, child welfare and legislation of the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and diverse needs, identities and cultural backgrounds of Black youth
- Knowledge of the community including an understanding of culture and local programs and services to which to refer Black youth, such as mental health and counselling supports
- Experience working and engaging within the Black community, specifically Black youth and their families, and their specialized needs
- High level of oral and written communication skills, time management and critical thinking skills with a strong understanding of role boundaries
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and compassionately with Black youth, stakeholders, volunteers and the community
- Fluency in English and French is an asset
- Excellent administrative, organizational and report writing skills
- Self-motivated individual with strong work ethics, a problem-solver and an avid team-player
- Obtain a clean and recent Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Possess a valid Ontario driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle and adequate insurance
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends is necessary.

We operate in a hybrid work environment, both in office and remote.

**Salary**: $58,000.00-$63,000.00 per year
