**Horticultural Therapy Internship - Therapeutic Garden Lead**

DESCRIPTION:
This is a part-time (22.5 hours per week) contract position for the duration of 6 months. The Horticultural Therapy Intern will be supervised by a Registered Horticultural Therapist and as such, all documented internship hours will count towards professional registration with the Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Diploma or degree in horticulture, or related discipline, from a recognized institution.
- Education in Horticultural Therapy, from a recognized institution or Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association (CHTA) approved program.
- Experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, particularly working with vulnerable population in long-term care or hospice setting.

KEY SUCCESS CRITERIA:

- Knowledge of horticultural procedures and appropriate seasonal horticultural tasks.
- Knowledge of horticultural supplies, equipment and/or services.
- Ability to physically accomplish all outdoor year-round horticultural tasks (must be able to lift 50lbs) and be prepared to work in all types of weather conditions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of people.
- Ability to make procedural decisions and judgements on sensitive, confidential issues.
- Ability to complete horticultural tasks, including provision of HT programming plant materials, within a defined budget.
- Information research, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to create, compose and edit written materials and communication.
- Ability to supervise and train assigned volunteers, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments for a diverse group of people.
