**Communications Assistant - 4 or 8 month Co-op**
Hybrid Remote in Waterloo Region

**Background**:
Reep Green Solutions is an environmental charity that was created in 1999 by the University of Waterloo and the Elora Environment Centre. Reep Green Solutions exists to empower the community with the practical tools, knowledge and capacity for action to make sustainable living the norm.
**Position Summary**
In this role, you will use your knowledge of professional communications, social media and marketing to support Reep Green Solutions’ communications goals. You will have one-one mentoring with a communications professional to develop skills in marketing, social media strategy, graphic design, event logistics, and professional communications.
You will work with the Communications Manager to develop social media posts, blog posts, marketing materials and outreach that will help the community understand their role in climate change action.

**The role of the Communications Assistant**
In this role, you will work closely with our Communications Manager to achieve organizational communications goals. You will use your knowledge of social media and marketing to support Reep communications goals in 2025.
**Responsibilities**:
- Create, manage and schedule unique social media content (images, video, audience engagement) to increase interest in sustainable living programs and services.
- Develop graphic design to create attractive marketing materials and advertising for programs (print, online etc.)
- Work with the communications manager to implement social media and communications strategy
- Use organizational skills to track major campaign key performance indicators (SEO, social media engagement, event participation, website metrics etc.)
- Assist with planning virtual and in-person community-focused events Attend community events and outreach pop ups to host interactive information sessions on programs and services to the community
- Write SEO blog posts on climate action and other relevant topics
- Assist with upkeep of website including updating content, adding events, optimizing pages and researching/implementing best practices
- Attend weekly and monthly meetings.
- Assist in creating monthly newsletters
- Use Canva, MailChimp, WordPress, EventBrite, and other platforms daily to implement Communication and Marketing plans
- Collaborate with another Communications Assistant to support with event marketing
- In addition to these responsibilities, other tasks may be added as required by the organization
**Skills/Qualifications**:
- Must be currently enrolled in a degree or college diploma program in Marketing, Communications or a related field at a Canadian University or College
- Experience in a related field or similar role is preferred.
- Understanding media relations and digital media strategies
- Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with design software (e.g. Canva, MailChimp, and WordPress)
- Solid editing and researching skills
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Graphic design experience
- Online marketing and social media experience
**Eligibility Requirements**:
This role is partially funded through Eco Canada; **To be eligible for this position you **_**MUST **_**meet the following criteria**:
- Student currently enrolled at a university or college in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art or Math (STEAM) and Business
- You _**must**_ be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or student with Refugee status (International students on work permit are not eligible)
- There is no age restriction, and you don’t have to be enrolled formally in your school’s co-op program to participate
**Term**:This is a minimum 16 week placement from January 6th 2024 - April 25th 2025 with the possibility of extension dependent on funding to a 32 week placement ending August 15th 2024.
**Salary**:Hourly rate for the role is $20.90 per hour, set to reflect our commitment to providing a living wage for all of our team members.
**Hours**: 35 hours per week, this role is a hybrid role with flexible hours. We are a virtual workplace with some in person events and meetings on occasion.
