School District No. 6 (Rocky Mountain) is searching for a continuing, full-time (1.0 FTE) District Vice Principal of Indigenous Learning and Equity. This educational leadership role is effective August 1, 2024.

School District No. 6 (Rocky Mountain) is situated on the traditional unceded territories of the Secwépemc and Ktunaxa Nations. The Secwépemc and Ktunaxa are represented by the Shuswap Band, Akisqnuk First Nation, and Aqam First Nation, respectively. The school district also serves Métis learners from the Columbia River, Columbia Valley, and Rocky Mountain Chartered Communities of Métis Nation BC. The territory is comprised of the communities of Golden, Nicholson, Edgewater, Radium, Invermere, Windermere, Canal Flats, Wasa, Kimberley, and Marysville in the beautiful Columbia Valley.

The District Vice Principal for Indigenous Learning and Equity will report to the Director of Instruction. The District Vice Principal will play an integral role strategizing with Indigenous Partners, school leaders, Indigenous Education Support Staff, and teachers to enhance equity for all learners, close achievement gaps for Indigenous learners, and meaningfully lead engagement of our Indigenous Partners in the community.

Lead strategy towards realizing Calls to Action in district settings as established by the 2015 report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Collaborate with school leaders and teachers to embed Indigenous worldviews and perspectives into daily learning and instruction.

Lead the development and implementation of a scope and sequence, infusing the First Peoples' Principles of Learning into curriculum.

Evaluate and supervise the inclusion of Indigenous content in learning for all students.

Lead the implementation of Equity in Action for School District No. 6 and its Indigenous Partners and

families.

Lead the engagement of our Indigenous Partners, students, and families in meaningful conversation about learning.

Assist Principals and Vice Principals in planning strategically for the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in instruction, resource selection, and school communications as well as for the academic improvement of all Indigenous learners.

Communicate to stakeholders in education about the status of Indigenous learning and equity in the school district.

Lead, evaluate, and coordinate services and supports delivered through the Indigenous Support Staff model in schools.

Work as part of the District Leadership Team to contribute to implementation of priorities of equity, inclusion, and Indigenous learning within the District Strategic Plan.

Conducts teacher evaluations, resource evaluations, and curriculum evaluations as necessary.

A history of successful teaching experience.

Demonstrated leadership with respect to Indigenous learning and First Peoples' Principles of Learning.

In depth knowledge of the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Must hold, or be eligible to hold, a BC Teacher's Certification.
