**EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY - Accompanist / Director of Music**
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is a warm and welcoming community of faith worshipping in the Windsor
Park neighbourhood of South-East Winnipeg. Prince of Peace is seeking a skilled pianist/organist, keen to lead the congregation in musical praise, with demonstrable experience in church music leadership. The sanctuary has an Allen organ and an upright piano. The position is part-time (for approximately 2-4 hours per week).
**The position will include, but not be limited to**:
- Leading worship from the piano or organ at our regular Sunday morning worship gatherings, as well as special gatherings such as Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve
- Selecting preludes, postludes and offertories according to the needs of the worship services
- Encouraging congregation’s participation in the liturgies through appropriate use of repertoire and musicality
- Supporting the church’s small volunteer singers with a Sunday rehearsal
- Recruiting, coaching and encouraging volunteers to assist in worship leadership, musically and vocally
- Encouraging musical leadership among the children/youth
- Participating in regularly scheduled monthly worship committee meetings to plan services and select appropriate hymns.
- Maintaining an accurate account of piano & organ needs and maintenance, and notifying Worship
Committee of updates
- Option to play for funerals and weddings (upon availability), being permitted to receive additional compensation from the parties involved
- Vacation time to be agreed upon, recognizing that the musician’s presence will be mandatory during
February to Easter and Advent/Christmas
**Key competencies**:
- Strong musical foundation and skilled on the piano
- Proficiency on the piano or organ and the ability to lead vocally
- Experience with other instruments an asset
- Experience and knowledge of traditional and contemporary liturgical worship and Lutheran Church music will be an asset
- Willingness to rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music
- Commitment to working as part of a staff and volunteer team
- Ability to exercise good communication skills, time management practices, good humour and professional relationships within the church
**Other Terms and Details**:
- Employment is by contract, to commence on or before March 1, 2024
- Works under the supervision of the Worship Chair and reports to the Church Council through the
Worship and Music Committee.
- Vacation time to be agreed upon, recognizing that the musician’s presence will be mandatory during
January to Easter and Advent/Christmas
- Compensation based on experience and expertise
