**The Position: Pastry Chef & Teaching Assistant**

**Breakdown of Responsibilities**

**Store**

**_BIG PICTURE _**
- Conceptualizing new menu items for the store, including hot table features, prepared home meal replacements (HMRs) on a weekly basis, and jarred/packaged goods on a monthly/quarterly basis.
- Participating in the creation of a cyclical monthly/weekly menu of “heat & serve” prepared items including 2 soups, 8-12 entrees, 6-8 salads, 3-4 dessert options.
- Conceptualizing new catering and special event menus on a seasonal basis.
- Implementing a central recipe repository system for Gastro Market.
- Standardizing and recording all new recipes for the store into the central recipe repository.
- Identifying all potential allergens in new and existing recipes, ensuring they are accurately reflected.
- Creating a calendar for cyclical menu items on a monthly basis.
- Implementing a tracking system for all store inventory that is both comprehensive and simple for staff to follow.
- Actively seeking and communicating with potential new and local suppliers for the store.
- Training of new staff members, and on an on-going basis.

Appendix A

**_DAY-TO-DAY PICTURE _**
- Maintaining a simple rotation of a static lunch station consisting of 5 pizzas and 5 sandwiches, including weekly features.
- Cooking and preparing takeaway meals during store hours.
- Liaising with customers, upselling product and providing thoughtful cooking tips & suggestions
- Assisting Executive Chef in preparing inventory orders.
- Monitoring and maintaining appropriate inventory of product and stock in-store.
- Expediting suppliers to guarantee food deliveries on time and within budget.
- Setting up the storefront upon opening, including comprehensive product checks, rotation of current stock, restock of new food items such as produce, prepared meals, dry goods, etc.
- Implementing a proper store closing procedure no earlier than 10 minutes prior to closing, unless otherwise directed by the Executive Chef, including lock-up of store at stated closing hour/time.
- Inspection, cleaning and maintenance of equipment and storage areas, including all fridges, freezers and pantry, as well as implementing monthly deep cleanses (power wash) with other staff.
- CLEANLINESS, ORGANIZATION, SANITATION and SYSTEMS are a must

**Online Business Development**
- Assisting in the launch of Gastro Market’s online store including product development and social media marketing.
- Helping to manage online orders for store products including uber, corner store, door dash, skip the dishes, as well as shipping of packaged/jarred/prepared goods on Shopify.
- Actively seeking social media opportunities and posting content when appropriate.

**Private Events & Catering**
- Planning, cooking and executing on-site or off-site private lunch or dinner functions.
- Keeping careful track of clients’ dietary restrictions and allergies, and preparing meals accordingly.

**Cooking Classes**
- Acting as kitchen assistant to Executive Chef when scheduled during foodie classes, couples cooking and team buildings.
- Assisting with the set-up and clean-up pre-and-post cooking class.
- Instructing 2-3 (or more) cooking classes in the curriculum, as determined by the Executive Chef.
- Participating in the cooking class curriculum planning.

**NOTE**:The Employee will also be responsible for other duties as may be assigned and may arise from time to time.

**HOURS**:General working hours are from: 10am-6pm, except for special circumstances such as after
- hour events and/or catering, for which the Employee’s schedule may be adjusted accordingly. As such, normal work hours may fluctuate from time to time.

Appendix A

**Salary**: $26.75 per hour
