If yes, consider becoming the Facility Lead for Lewis Farms Recreation Centre. This new large recreation centre will be serving Edmontonians of all ages and abilities to meet their needs for sport, recreational and leisure opportunities. Amenities include a large fitness centre, sport courts, an indoor walking/running track, an indoor playground, a 50m pool, leisure pool, hot tub and steam room, as well as various program studios and multi-purpose spaces supporting the delivery of a wide range of programs and services as well as emerging recreation activities.
As we are preparing for opening this facility in 2028, we are looking for a knowledgeable, highly organized, detail-oriented, flexible and motivated leader to fill an operational facility manager role at this location.
During this initial preparation phase you will work alongside the Supervisor for the facility on all operational aspects that need to be in place to ensure we’ll have a welcoming, well-functioning and safe environment once we open the doors to the public. Duties will be related to fitting up the centre with furniture, fixtures and equipment, working on emergency preparedness, resource planning, SOP development, supporting the construction teams with whatever they need to complete the project according to our needs. This includes collaboration with Branch new facility development projects.
Once we are operating, you are responsible for a team of aquatic staff including Lifeguards, Amenity Attendants and Pool Service Persons, managing the day-to-day operations on the aquatics side but also assisting with overall facility management as needed. As a member of the facility’s core team you will also be a face to our customers, expected to provide excellent customer service to all visitors.
**What will you do**:
- Lead and/or support all preparations for opening a new recreation centre
- Direct and supervise the operational activities of the Lewis Farms Recreation Centre
- Recruit, train, supervise and manage the aquatic operational staff at the centre
- Direct or delegate the direction of supervision, assignment of work, training, scheduling, recruitment, selection and assessment of the work of the Amenity Attendants, Lifeguards, and Pool Service Persons
- Direct the scheduling, operation, maintenance and evaluation of janitorial work, mechanical inspections, pool filtration, water treatment, chemical feed equipment, security and general sanitation of the Aquatic Centre
- Establish, in conjunction with the Buildings and Facility Maintenance Section, the preventative and scheduled maintenance program at the facility
- React to emergency situations and perform First Aid, lifeguarding and safeguarding as required
- Order supplies, materials and equipment allowed for within the operating budget
- Prepare and submit administrative reports as required; develop and evaluate the facility business plan and budget
- Plan, assess, implement and monitor Occupational Health and Safety procedures
- Other related duties as required
**Qualifications**:
- Completion of two years post-secondary education in Recreation Administration, Facility Management, Business Management, Economics, or a related discipline
- A minimum of 3 years' progressively responsible experience in the field of recreation and/or recreation facilities, with a minimum of two years experience in a leadership role
**Skills Required for Success**:
- Knowledge of pool mechanical and filtration systems is required
- Leadership skills, including the ability to adjust leadership style as needed for overall team success
- Ability to assess staff training and development needs, organize and/or deliver training and education services
- Understanding of budgets and able to work within given financial parameters
- Ability to build and maintain great working relationships with other teams/areas, partners and contractors
- Excellent customer service skills, able to remain calm and professional in difficult situation
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organization, time management and prioritization skills required
- Great problem-solving skills and solution-focused approach
- Ability to recognize emergency situations, react accordingly, and make decisions

**Conditions of Employment**:
- Possession of a Swimming Pool Operators Certificate, Level II - A.A.R.F.P.
- Possession of current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Award (NL), Government of Alberta workplace approved Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C Valid Intermediate First Aid CPR and AED Level C is required at the time of hire
