**Your Opportunity**:
The Medicine/Critical Care Social Worker, reporting to the acute care oncology/critical care manager, provides a broad range of social work to clients within an interdisciplinary framework. These services are primary clinical and expertise in psychosocial assessments, counseling, case management, and advocacy are required. The incumbent is located on the palliative care unit at Red Deer Regional Hospital, but services are also provided to other medicine/critical care units with complex discharge needs or those experiencing complex psychosocial issues requiring clinical expertise, counseling, or case management. This position would be expected to provide social work coverage to those units who are experiencing social work absences. The Social Worker will: Assist clients, residents, patients and their families, caregivers, and surrogate decision makers. Adhere to the Social Work Code of Ethics. Adhere to hospital and social work policies and procedures unless in conflict with social work code of ethics. Participate in social work meetings, in-service education, and other social work groups as requested and/or assigned. Participate with quality improvement and accountability systems, ie. workload measurement, evaluation, and accreditation as required. Participate in research, teaching, and student supervision in consultation with program director and other team members as appropriate. Participate in educational opportunities for professional development in consultation with program director.

Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Bachelor of social work degree, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in social work practice, specific palliative care training/critical care training is an asset. Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers. Experience in palliative care/hospice/critical care or community health care is desired. The position works in a rapid paced, complex environment, where the ability to identify and implement proactive strategies and make rapid quality decisions based on numerous sources of data are important. Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships is critical to success in this position. The incumbent must be able to develop teams, individuals, and manage complex interpersonal issues with sensitivity on a regular basis. Possible travel to another site is possible. Computer use and sedentary nature of the job, requires attention to ergonomic issues. The position requires a regular need to give moderate attention to listening for details. The position must be able to lift 20kg on a repetitive daily basis.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Palliative Care Training/ critical care training/ crisis intervention would be an asset. Knowledge of and/or experience with applicable legislation and community resources are an asset.
