**Overview**
The Culture & Ceremony Coordinator will support NPDWC’s efforts to ensure that its programs and services culturally appropriate, facilitate access to traditional Indigenous teachings and ceremonies, and provide direct support to community members seeking traditional healing and/or counselling. This position requires experience in facilitating ceremonies, knowledge of traditional teachings including harvesting, storing, and use of traditional medicines, and demonstrated commitment to decolonization. The Culture & Ceremony Coordinator will also have knowledge of and experience working with survivors of trauma, both acute and intergenerational. Awareness of the effects of colonization, including Residential Schools, the 60’s Scoop, present-day child welfare systems, etc. is required. The work hours for this position can range from part-time to full-time, depending on the needs of the organization and the employee.

**Responsibilities**
- Follow NPDWC policies, procedures, and respect guidelines.
- Maintain accurate statistical data for all cultural events/programming at NPDWC.
- Prepare and submit a monthly report to the Manager of Operations & Administration.
- Ensure a high level of confidentiality for community members accessing services at NPDWC.
- Attend all team meetings, learning gatherings, training, and other events as needed.
- Engage in clear and effective communication.
- Support NPDWC’s commitment to providing culturally safe programs and services across the organization, including providing an Indigenous perspective to program/service development, leadership initiatives, etc.
- Lead and/or provide support to the planning of traditional ceremonies and significant events for community and staff. This includes but is not limited to seasonal ceremonies (Solstice/Equinox), National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, Indigenous People’s Day, National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited People, harvesting traditional medicines, etc.
- Provide direct cultural support/counselling to community members as needed.
- Ongoing development of cultural resources that staff and participants can access.
- Co-facilitate healing and/or counselling groups.
- Attend community events and meetings, sitting on community committees as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned, consistent with this job description and approved by Centre policies, procedures, and the Executive Director.

**Qualifications**
- Minimum two years of experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Ability to work from a strength-based, culturally safe, harm reduction approach.
- Knowledge of the resources available in the community to women experiencing poverty, homelessness, violence, chaotic substance use, mental illness, etc.
- Experience working with and across diverse communities and identities, including racialized peoples, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, people with disabilities, etc.
- Knowledge of the current and historical effects of colonization on Indigenous people and experience supporting people to access traditional practices, reclaim culture, and navigate the unique barriers they face.
- Lived or living experience of substance use, food or housing insecurity, system involvement (EIA, CFS, etc.) poverty, and/or other types of barriers faced by inner city communities is welcomed and respected.
- Recognition by the Indigenous community as carrying knowledge and understanding social and spiritual traditions.
- Knowledge of traditional Indigenous teachings, cultures, ceremonial practices, and ways of being/healing.
- Awareness of and respect for the diverse Indigenous nations that, both historically and currently, live on and care for these lands. This includes recognition of diverse ceremonial practices, languages, and relationships.
- Demonstrated knowledge of traditional Indigenous healing practices including the use of traditional medicines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Comfortable using standard office technology and computer programs.
- Strong self-awareness, able to engage complex situations with clarity and respect for all.
- Ability to work collaboratively with coworkers, community, and stakeholders.
- Highly organized and able to work independently.
- Planning and facilitation of ceremonies, healing groups, etc.
- Able to be flexible and respond to shifting priorities.
- Strong problem-solving, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the mission and vision of North Point Douglas Women’s Centre.
- Ongoing satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record is preferred.
- Certification as a Red Road to Healing Facilitator is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with one or more Indigenous languages is considered an asset.
