- The position is accountable to the Department Head and holds a faculty position. It is therefore covered by the Collective Agreement between the College and the Vancouver Community College Faculty Association.
- Evaluation will be completed in the second half of the initial probationary year of appointment.
- The specific responsibilities listed below are not intended to be a complete and definitive listing. The position is expected to have their responsibilities delineated by the Department Head although they are to use their discretion and initiative to deal with situations as they arise and to assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Head.

**Duties & Responsibilities**

**A.** **Clinical Placements**
- Liaises with School of Health Sciences Practice Education Coordinator to ensure that clinical placement needs as well as well appropriateness of clinical sites are met for all terms.
- Liaises with all team leaders to support for clinical groups, including clinical staff.

**B.** **Support for Students and Faculty**
- Provides oversight to all faculty with student documentation, including policies of academic integrity.
- Provides clinical support within the clinical setting as required.
- Provides clinical, lab and theory coverage as required.
- Completes faculty performance appraisals in consultation with the Department Head.
- Liaises with the Practice Education Coordinator to ensure students/faculty have completed practice education requirements for clinical sites.

**C.** **Mentoring New Instructors**
- Coordinates orientation of new faculty.
- Mentors new faculty to roles/responsibilities and BSN Philosophy and Curriculum Framework and VCC, BScN policies, CASN Educational Framework and UDL principles.
- Supports the enrollment of faculty to complete the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program.

**D.** **Curriculum Development and Support**
- Liaises with BScN Curriculum Committee chair to ensure program and course learning outcomes are aligned.
- Assists and supports faculty with the incorporation of UDL principles, including alignment of learning outcomes, course content, assessment, evaluation strategies.
- Supports faculty with program template for Moodle shell and MS Teams development.

**E.** **Department Head Assistance**
- Provide coverage for DH vacation as needed.
- Assist DH with administrative and other duties as needed.

**Area Hiring Criteria**

**Education and Experience**
- Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or Bachelor of Nursing (BN) degree or Registered Nurse (RN) Diploma with a relevant degree or Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing (BSPN) or Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing with relevant degree.
- Current British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) registration.
- Master’s degree in Nursing/Education or related/equivalent; PhD considered an asset.
- Minimum three (3) years recent experience in nursing practice in one or more of the following specialty areas:

- Gerontology
- Acute care Medical/ surgical nursing
- Mental health and substance use nursing
- Maternity/child nursing
- BC Provincial Instructor’s Diploma or in process of completion.

**Skills and Abilities**
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or mentoring adult learners in clinical settings in ways aligned with the VCC BSN Philosophy and Curriculum Framework. Specifically, critical pedagogy, Universal Design for Learning, and culturally safe, trauma informed approaches to teaching/learning.
- Knowledge of the role of the Registered Nurse in health care.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member/leader utilizing principles of equity and inclusivity to contribute to a common goal of excellence in nursing education.
- Knowledge and /or experience of all terms within the VCC BScN curriculum.
- Knowledge of the BCCNM Updated Entry Level competencies including key knowledge/skill areas such as the Relational Inquiry Model, trauma in
