**About the Opportunity**:
The financial analyst role is an important role across the finance portfolio, ensuring all processes and system technology is efficient and working to support stakeholders, customers, vendors, and employees. These positions have key relationships across Nova Scotia Health with Clinical & Administrative Managers and Directors, to support financial, payroll, budget and cost decisions.

The financial analysts are responsible to provide analytical support to corporate activities serviced by the finance portfolio (Budget, Variance Analysis, Forecasting, Reporting, etc.), transactional processing centres (Accounts Receivable, Payroll, etc.) and support to NSH leaders (Directors, Managers, Physician Leaders, etc.).

This position will be assigned accountability for day to day analytical work strategic initiatives (projects, process work, focus groups, committees, etc.). The analyst is responsible for the creation, management and dissemination of accurate and timely reports and analysis for their department/service/zone. The analyst provides proactive expertise and advice in conducting analysis and developing recommendations to support provincial business decision making, improve performance, reduce risks and assist in the developing of business cases to support improvements.

**Key Responsibilities Include**:

- Providing analysis of complex financial data to support effective management and decision-making. Reviewing and analyzing monthly and quarterly results and works with zone management to identify any potential financial issues/risks through trend analysis and questioning of key forecast assumptions. Review, reconcile and verify key transactional activities to ensure processes are efficient.
- Consult and advise clients on all aspects of managing budgets. This includes assisting with, identifying and researching issues, as well as providing options and recommending solutions.
- Reviewing and analyzing key corporate practices/processes, i.e. budget, forecast, reporting, and transactions; to ensure variations are noted, addressed and explained; and key opportunities are identified for process improvement.
- Performing special projects as required including trend analysis, costing studies, benefit analysis, statistical comparisons, audits, etc.
- Providing financial education for clients through delivery of regular workshops, group and individual training sessions.
- Building and cultivating strong working relationships within finance team and across zones at the management and leadership levels.
- Analyze and challenge zone decisions and business cases with an objective perspective to ensure that plans are achievable, risks are understood, planning and data is accurate, and that decision-making is well-informed.
- Contributing to the overall effectiveness of the NSHA through involvement or leadership in committees and task forces.
- Develop working relationships with transactional staff, in coordination with analytical responsibilities. Communicate and discuss Nova Scotia Health Authority policies, guidelines and procedures with transactional staff to ensure responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities are defined and understood.

**About You**:

- Graduate of a recognized post-secondary business and/or accounting program
- Undergraduate degree preferred
- Enrolement or completion of accounting designation considered an asset
- Minimum 3 years strong functional system experience and knowledge of budget, corporate reporting, general accounting, financial analytics.
- Possesses a solid understanding of the finance processes and key performance indicators
- Excellent collaboration, verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem solving and conceptual thinking skills
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office, specifically Excel
