Reporting to the Manager, Improvement Initiatives the Lead, Improvement Initiatives is responsible for coordinating and working collaboratively across the Sustainable Development team to support the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan. You will support the development and implementation of management strategies and plans for emerging opportunities, uncertainties and challenges related to water quality, flow, and aquatic life.

To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, who can build and maintain positive relationships with partners across all levels of our organization. We require someone who has strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills and demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.

**Responsibilities**:

- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Lead water programs to define outcomes in order to meet business objectives related to water strategy and permit commitments
- Lead efficient decision processes through information gathering, trade-off studies, risk evaluations, and providing recommendations that align with program objectives and priorities
- Contribute to the continual improvement of project delivery systems and processes to enable improved outcomes for current and future programs
- Collaborate with sustainable development teams to develop charters and prioritize resources that advises strategy, planning, and budgets
- Develop and maintain working relationships with key partners through regular dialogue and coordinated work sessions
- Identify, develop, and implement novel ideas using technology to lead associated initiatives for sustainable development in water quality management
- Incorporate an adaptive management approach to ensure effective management of change processes are employed
- Engage and advance a continual improvement culture through all layers of the organization within Sustainability Development

**Qualifications**:

- Engineering or Science degree in an environmental-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Have or be eligible for a professional designation (considered an asset)
- Minimum five years of professional work experience in project management, environmental sciences, permitting, or mining
- Excellent project management skills including project framework and development, risk management and management of scope, schedule, and budget for multiple programs
- Knowledge and experience with federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations related to water quality and quantity, water management, and resource development
- Experience providing technical and strategic direction on operational and business related risks and opportunities
