**The Organization**

Métis Crossing is Alberta’s first major Métis destination where we share and celebrate the Métis culture with all people With their unique designs that combine both traditional and contemporary Métis craftmanship, The Lodge and the Gathering Centre at Métis Crossing are special blends of comfort, culture, and Métis history. Directly adjacent to the Cultural Gathering Centre, our 40-room boutique Lodge offers scenic views overlooking the majestic North Saskatchewan River, the very route used by our Métis ancestors as they gathered here to trade. The Cultural Gathering Centre is the base for all our cultural and educational programs. The Lodge offers a Bistro for coffee and express breakfast, as well as a Lounge for cocktails and light snacks. Together they are an ideal location for corporate and government retreats as well as family gatherings.

**The Opportunity**

Métis Crossing seeks aspiring culinary professionals for the position of _Culinary Team Member_. This is a summer term position with an end date of September 1st, 2024. The successful applicants will play an integral role in supporting the culinary vision at Métis Crossing including the preparation and serving of indigenous cuisine and supporting special events. Working with the head chef and the front-of-house team, _Culinary Team Members_ will bring concepts such as “_Forest & Farm to Table”_ to life.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Serving Guests.
- Set up for events and tables.
- Clean tables/seating areas.
- Operating the Point-of-Sale System.
- Other “front of house” duties, as needed.
- Assist in food and beverage preparation. If above the age of 18, serve alcoholic beverages to guests.
- Maintain and clean stations. Wipe down and sanitize food areas.
- Operate dishwasher. Keep the dishwasher in clean condition.
- General cleaning duties include taking out the trash, sweeping, mopping, and keeping the dishwashing area clean and organized.
- Use and wear equipment, and clothing required by Métis Crossing and in compliance with OHS.
- Adhere to WHMIS at all times.
- Seed and harvest fruits and vegetables in the vertical indoor garden.

**Skills & Competencies**
- Strong oral communication skills.
- Able to provide a good guest experience.
- Experience working with diverse audiences of varying cultural backgrounds and ages.
- Flexibility to adjust to changes in schedule and assignments.
- Attention to details.
- Able to work independently and with others in a team, as well as take direction from others.
- Ability to work in a noisy, fast paced, multitasking environment.
- Must be able to life up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding area, including standing for the duration of shifts.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Basic understanding of food service requirements.
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Helper or server.
- WHMIS and basic First Aid.
- Knowledge and adherence to safe and sanitary food handling procedures.
- Knowledge of Alberta history and cultural diversity.
- Knowledge of Alberta Métis.

**Other Requirements**
- Availability to work a mixed schedule of days, evenings, and weekends.
- Ability to work at Métis Crossing in Smoky Lake.
- Clear Criminal Record Check required.
- Must be returning to school full-time in the Fall 2024.

**Employment Details**:

- Schedule will be based on a 40-hour work week, and will include weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
