To be considered for employment under one of the student employment programs, the individual must be:
- registered as a full-time or part-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited academic program
- participating in adult education and retraining programs at the secondary level, operated under the authority of an accredited academic institution
- should meet the minimum age requirement to be employed in the province or territory of work

Assessment accommodation
Students will be required to cover all travel expenses to and from the location of work.
Living accommodations will not be provided. Students must be able to find their own accommodations.
Hours of work: 37.5 per week

**Duties**:
Duties may include the following tasks:
- Exercising horses, feeding, watering, grooming and hay management
- Assisting staff with horse trip preparation
- Trailering horses and staff to trailheads
- Tack organization, maintenance and care
- Staff training and mentoring
- Other duties associated with an active horse program
**Work environment**:
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE:
EX1: Working with horses, horse care, riding and maintaining tack
EX2: Driving a large truck while towing a trailer
EX3: Shoeing horses

K3: Knowledge of safe work practices and standards related to equine activities
K4: Knowledge of hoof anatomy and shoeing techniques

ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:
Certifications including but not limited to: Wilderness First Aid - 40-hour min, Farrier Certification
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
AE1: Experience mentoring or teaching
AE2: Experience with equine first aid
AE3: Experience with fencing/repair
AE4: Experience with leatherwork
AE5: Experience travelling in the backcountry on multi-day pack trips with horses.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE:
AK1: Knowledge of care and handling techniques for horses, specifically related to western riding and backcountry wilderness travel with pack horses
AK2: Knowledge of Banff backcountry
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willing and able to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal safety equipment
- Willing and able to work varied hours, shift, weekends, evenings, overtime and holidays
- Willing and able to work outdoors, travel between various work sites, and be exposed to various weather conditions
**Conditions of employment**:

- Reliability status security clearance
- Possession and maintenance of a valid unrestricted class 5 driver's license (Class L, N or other graduated licenses will not be accepted)
