**Job Overview**:
The Family Liaison Worker assists young moms and dads in their development of positive parenting skills to foster healthy parent child relationships. Through home visits, community outreach, and working with the Child and Family Support Centre, participants are supported to make healthy choices and to develop their capacity to effectively foster healthy child development of their children. This position reports jointly to Supervisor, Collaborative Services and the Pedagogical Supervisor, Child and Family Support Centre.
**Job Conditions**:
This is a full time (35 hours/week), regular office hours Monday through Friday, with an expected flexibility of 1 - 2 evenings per week, and possible occasional weekend based on the needs of families. The position will primarily be working out of Braemar School at 9359 67a Street NW, as well as the Terra office located at 10320-146 Street.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**The Family Liaison will model and support participants with family and child development goals through modeling and building relationships**:
- Provide ongoing support to children and families through in person visits at home, school, and community to identify priorities and develop action steps to address those priorities in their individual and family life.
- Assist families to connect with community resources and build a strong connection with their community.
- Assist families with problem-solving, communication skills, decision-making skills, and goal planning to increase their confidence in meeting the needs of their children and family.
- Facilitate and support day and possible evening programming.
- Track and celebrate the attainment of participants goals, milestones and/or efforts towards their achievement.
**The Family Liaison will support participants with children that have complex needs through**:
- Working with the Child and Family Support Centre (CFSC) to compete intakes, goal planning, and one on one coaching for young parents.
- Complete ASQs (Ages and Stages Questionnaires) and provide relevant follow up support.
- Completing home visits for families to support with integrating tools and strategies used in playrooms or in the community.
- Provide transition support for families to community childcare for families that are leaving CFSC or families that need to access the support for the first time.
- Work and support parents with children with potential diagnoses and connect them to relevant community agencies.
- Support in curriculum planning with connected playrooms and Early Childhood Educators to ensure continuity of care.
- Contribute to the development of team and agency-wide knowledge and skills; the Family Liaison will support other Terra Staff in their capacity to support Terra families by developing resources to engage and strengthen child development through activities that support with routine building and sensory play.
**The Family Liaison ensures professional skills used to provide services and supports to**:
- Consult with the integrated service team to ensure participant needs are addressed.
- Conduct interaction with participants in a professional manner, maintaining healthy professional boundaries in all participant interactions.
- Adhere to Terra’s policies and procedures and to the professional code of ethics of applicable professional associations.
- Foster relationship building with the agency, partners, and community resources.
- Maintain participant documentation, outcomes data and reporting in full compliance with policies and procedures.
**Qualifications**:
- **Knowledge and Abilities**:_
- Post-secondary degree in Human Services, Early Learning and Childcare or equivalent relevant education; Diploma with professional experience equivalency will be considered.
- Current Standard First Aid CPR-C & AED.
- Current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or plan to get within 6 months of employment.
- Understanding and knowledge of the complex barriers and challenges young pregnant and parenting people experience.
- Experience with supporting families with complex needs such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FASD) and Autism and navigating the necessary community supports such as Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) & other funding sources.
- Experience and ability to develop positive, effective, professional rapport and relationships with youth and children from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Experience working with marginalized participants, including people facing multiple barriers and complex challenges, including but not limited to mental health challenges and substance abuse.
- Capable of performing independently as well as part of a team environment and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
