The **Alberta Bureau of International Education (ABIE)** is an incorporated organization that provides a central voice for participating post-secondary institutions across Alberta, one that acts on their behalf to advance the international education sector in the province. In today’s interconnected world, Alberta’s post-secondary sector plays a vital role in equipping students for their future as global citizens. To this end, ABIE supports building and expanding the capacity of Alberta post-secondary institutions to support increased global engagement, international student recruitment, and international learning opportunities for Albertans. ABIE will position Alberta as a top education destination for international students and focuses on growing and diversifying international student enrolment in the province.
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED) of the **Alberta Bureau for International Education** (ABIE), the **Business Operations Lead** (BOL), is responsible for the strategic prioritization and oversight, and implementation of operational requirements for the Bureau. This includes the seamless coordination and a high level of customer service for inbound and outbound activities, in alignment with ABIE’s mandate and measures for success.
The BOL requires a strategic outlook as being responsible for engagement in international activities underpinning the boards priorities, including advancement activities such as capacity building through educational development and information sessions. The incumbent requires a high-level of diplomacy, political acumen and cultural sensitivity as working with a range of stakeholders locally and globally. The ED being the point of contact for the system constituents (provincial post-secondary leaders/presidents, government and national constituents, international delegates), relies on the BOL to be the day-to-day point of contact for membership such as designated international representatives from post-secondary organizations, funding partners, and local/global partners, by providing guidance and ensuring a high standard of accurate and timely level of responsiveness, engagement, and support as requested.
The position is accountable for planning and managing a broad range of activities. The individual demonstrates a growth-focused, continuous improvement mindset.
This role has a significant impact on the general perception and communications of the ABIE, therefore requires a high-level personal contact and relationship building using a service-oriented approach to understand how to support the advancement of international education. This is a demanding and high paced position, as the BOL is expected to take initiative and work independently, with little direction, and with a high degree of strategic oversight, professionalism, accuracy, flexibility, and sound judgment in a fluid environment. The individual must be capable of working independently and be resilient, innovative and creative with a collegial and collaborative attitude. The individual in this position must also be able to think strategically, make sound judgments in prioritizing work, adjust plans as demands change, and execute on operationalize decisions.
**The Role**:
- ** Leadership for Day-to-Day Operations (40%)**:
- Manages ABIE team and membership meetings and attends meetings for Executive Director as a delegate if requested
- Works in collaboration, effectively communicates with and supports the ABIE Office Team as required
- Demonstrates accountability and clear, written and verbal communication to internal and external members (membership and international partners)
- Consultation with post-secondary international education partners to collect feedback and provide support related to advancing international education
- Understands and interprets government policy documents and announcements
- Leads the development, implementation and adherence to policies and procedures
- Contributes to new employee recruitment and onboards new staff
- Leads the Bureau’s employee engagement and recognition in support of good employee culture
- Coordinates ABIE travel in Alberta and abroad in collaboration with executive assistant
- Collaborates in the establishment of areas of improvement and projects to enhance productivity, efficiency, member and executive support
- Supports the development and implementation of the marketing and communications plan
- Researches and identifies local and global partners and recruitment opportunities, in country and offshore
- Identification of capacity building initiatives to advance the provinces capability and understanding of international education
- Liaises and generates leads for Alberta Post-Secondary Institutions and connects with members cultivating new inbound and outbound engagement opportunities
