**About IHSTS**:
The Institute for Health System Transformation and Sustainability is a small, independent not for profit, founded in 2010, in partnership with the BC Ministry of Health and Fraser Health Authority here in BC.

Currently, IHSTS is focused on accelerating emerging and best practices in palliative care and type 2 diabetes. Transformation in these two distinct areas have very significant implications for individuals and the sustainability of the health system as a whole. **Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Chair of the IHSTS Board of Directors, the CEO leads, champions, and facilitates the creation of novel and alternative approaches to advance health and health system transformation and sustainability.

A highly motivated professional, the CEO builds networks of researchers, research organizations, policy makers, communities, patient advisory groups and health delivery and practice decision-makers to support and accelerate the creation of novel approaches to the challenges of health system transformation and sustainability.

The CEO requires a broad understanding of the systemic barriers to health system sustainability in the Canadian context, but also the opportunities afforded by an “open mind” and appreciation of evidence deriving from local and national health sectors. An innovative leader, the CEO fosters effective partnerships with key health policy and practice leaders (including the Ministry of Health and Health Authorities) through establishing an environment of earned respect, trust and shared purpose.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**

A graduate or professional degree, preferably in a health related field with a combination of expertise, experience and performance directly relevant to the Institute’s mandate.

**Experience and Abilities**
- Senior leader with responsibility for the operation of a Canadian health system entity. Credibility with provincial government policy makers and health system senior executives, including health system clinicians and researchers.
- Extensive team management; partnership development; and working with academic and health delivery organizations, board of directors, and government.
- Broad systems thinking and integrator with an established history of building networks and coalitions required to respond to the needs of the health care system; a sound understanding of the fundamentals of high quality research.
- Exceptional strategic planning and network development skills; business acumen and solid knowledge and experience with financial and operational reporting.
- Effectively framing health system sustainability issues in a factual way and mobilizing the relevant constituencies through directed facilitation including working creatively in whitespace to explore novel, alternate approaches to address issues.
- Exceptional communication, public speaking, and public relations skills; skilled in facilitation and delivering presentations through an appreciative inquiry approach; strong interpersonal skills; collaborative; strong and demonstrated ability to communicate a compelling vision for ways to deliver sustainable health care in Canada.
- Strong ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders to develop creative and innovative approaches to health system change (including Health Authority executives, senior government policy makers, university deans and department heads, clinical leaders, faculty researchers, clinical researchers and system managers among others).

**Specific Accountabilities**:
The CEO is responsible for:

- **Strategic Leadership and Program Development**: Works closely with the Institute Board of Directors and advisory structures to establish and prioritize key issues, and develops and ensures proposals are brought forward identifying potential novel approaches for system change through the engagement of the health system community.
- **Representation and Relationships**:As the Institute public face and media spokesperson, represents its interests by developing cooperative and collaborative relationships with a wide range of key stakeholders including health system leaders, clinicians and staff; key government policy makers; universities, industry, communities, not for profit partners, and others. Influences and champions the vision, mission, and values of the Institute.
