The Sampling Technician position is a site-based position at the Elk Gold Mine Site located off Highway 97C in British Columbia.
The Sampling Technician performs basic field analyses to ensure representative samples through use of electronic or mechanical instruments, makes evaluative field judgments to determine whether samples represent the quality of the material being sampled.
THIS IS AN ENTRY LEVEL POSITION.
THIS IS NOT A CAMP POSITION. THERE IS NO OPPORTUNITY FOR TRAVEL PAY, RELOCATION PAY OR FLY IN FLY OUT. THIS POSITION IS BEST SUITED FOR PERSON LIVING IN THE OKANAGAN AND NICOLA REGIONS.
NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. STUDENTS, GIT AND OTHER RELATED FIELDS WELCOME.
About the Role In this role, you will:
- conduct field investigations to collect soil and rock samples for analysis.
- perform laboratory tests on soil and rock samples to determine their properties.
- organize, dispatch and complete chain of custody for dispatching samples to laboratories.
- organize, receive and store returning samples from laboratories.
- assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports and recommendations.
- collaborate with geologists to ensure project requirements are met.
- utilize software tools for data analysis and reporting.
- maintain accurate records of field observations and test results.
- adhere to safety protocols and procedures at all times.
- safe operation of field trucks following safety standards while operating around active mining areas.
- assist geology team with in-field ore block markups.
- keep track of inventory of supplies.
- maintain, wash and clean survey, drill and blast and geology tools and equipment as required.
**Qualifications**:
- Registration in a geology / geological engineering program at university or college is considered an asset.
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or related field an asset.
- Previous experience in geotechnical testing and analysis is preferred.
- Students encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge of geotechnical software and systems.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Certification or willingness to obtain relevant industry certifications.
- A minimum of 6 months of related work experience is an asset.
- Previous experience in mining (specifically open pit mining) is considered an asset.
- Ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions, such as cold, snow, rain, heat, etc.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20kg (44lbs)
- Basic computer skills.
- Good observational and analytical skills.
- Good written and oral communication.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently.
Pay: $24.00-$32.00 per hour
