**Job Summary**:
The Director, Advancement Communications and Editorial Strategy is responsible for providing strong leadership management, ideation, execution and guidance for creative, strategic communications and editorial strategy for Pan-University donor and advancement communications. In addition, this role leads high-value communications, such as stewardship and donor reports, cases for support and proposals, alumni digital and print magazine, online feature stories, gift announcements, and marketing programs in a data and deadline-driven, fast-paced environment. The Director oversees a team of communications professionals and the execution of a strategic communications plan to support senior leaders in the delivery of McMaster’s enterprise-wide strategy to maximize philanthropic income from, and engagement with, key external audiences, in support of McMaster’s goals.

**Accountabilities**:

- Working closely with the Executive Director, Advancement Communications, the Director, Advancement Communications and Editorial Strategy supports strategic direction through leadership of the communications team and developing the plans, and managing execution and delivery for communication plans and materials in support of university-wide Advancement activity.
- Set the direction for the digital & print alumni magazine and other editorial content with a proposed operating budget of $300K. This Director will manage the relaunch and act as the Managing Editor for content including overseeing vendors, advertising and billing and operational administration of the magazine.
- Lead and provide direction for vendors and freelancers/contractors to support the overall campaign communications. This will include contract engagement, management and oversight of content created.
- Assist in creating and executing an effective and compelling communications program for Advancement activity that prepares for the successful launch of the University’s next philanthropic campaign, with an anticipated target of approximately $1 billion. This role will directly oversee a team of communications writers and the day-to-day execution of the strategic communication plan.

Directs the execution of strategic plans for all cross-university Advancement communication with consultation, research and writing support for a team of communications professionals and indirect reporting relationship with advancement communications staff across the University. Manages a team of 5-10 Direct Reports.
