The Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) has been an animal welfare leader in the Edmonton community since 1907. We strive to be a model of excellence in the advancement of animal welfare and to lead the movement in creating a more humane world. EHS is a safe haven for thousands of homeless animals each year, providing veterinary treatment, behavioral rehabilitation, care, enrichment, and rehoming. Beyond animal sheltering, we engage with the community through various programs and services to support happy, lifelong bonds between people and pets.

**The Role**:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Humane Education, the Humane Educator is responsible for the development and delivery of educational curriculum and materials which focus on Humane Education related topics. This includes teaching kindness, compassion, and empathy towards animals, by increasing knowledge of companion animal care and welfare, while raising awareness for the work EHS does.

**Key Roles & Responsibilities**:
Delivery of Programs
- Present educational programming for groups of all ages, both on
- and off-site.
- Facilitate community programs with schools and service organizations such as Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, etc., including participation in campaigns such as Read in Week in schools each year.
- Act as a volunteer liaison and arrange for the presence of the Animal Ambassador and other volunteers (e.g. camp volunteers) for educational programming when appropriate.
- Support the Supervisor with customer service and administrative duties as needed.
- Present educational components and lead activities as part of EHS’ kid’s camps.

Development of Programs
- Implement new educational programs that create awareness and grow understanding of Humane Education topics and engage the organization’s support base.
- Develop and organize educational components (presentations and activities) for kids’ camps.
- Develop and host online educational videos for various audiences and platforms.

Tours & Community Awareness
- Deliver facility tours as part of Humane Education programming.
- Develop and conduct tour training for other EHS staff who deliver to tours.
- Participate in community events, representing EHS as an ambassador and increasing understanding of the work EHS does while promoting Humane Education programs.

**Education & Requirements**:

- A diploma or degree in a related field (primary/secondary or adult education, recreation, business administration, animal welfare, humane education)
- Minimum 2 years experience in program delivery, including knowledge in teaching methods, curriculum development, lesson planning and course delivery.

**Skills & Abilities**:
Required:

- Ability to travel with a valid driver’s license.
- Security and background clearance check including vulnerable sectors.
- Experience and comfortable handling companion animals (cats, dogs, and small animals).
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification are required. Pet First Aid is an asset.

**Compensation & Hours**:

- ** Compensation**:EHS offers a competitive not-for-profit compensation and a strong work-life balance.
- ** Hours**: 40 hours a week; however, is expected to work hours as required to fulfill department responsibilities. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
