Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Sergeant-at-Arms department is seeking a experienced, motivated and professional individual for the regular full-time position of Special Constable.

Reporting to the Sergeant, the Special Provincial Constable (Constable) is responsible for carrying out approved plans and security measures to ensure the protection of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), VIP’s, employees, the public and property, and the preservation of peace and order within the Legislative Precinct.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

Applicants must be/have:

- Must have at least five years of policing experience within a Commonwealth jurisdiction within the last three years.
- Must be able to positively interact with the public in day-to-day interactions, which foster a welcoming environment that is essential for the proper functioning of the democratic institution.
- Must complete and provide a satisfactory criminal record check, which must be renewed every five years.
- Must meet and maintain the Special Constable Basic Occupational Requirements (Appendix 1).
- Must meet and maintain the Training Standards necessary for qualification with the following:

- Handgun (Appendix 2)
- Conducted Energy Weapon (Appendix 3)
- Baton (Appendix 4)
- Oleoresin Capsicum (Appendix 5)
- Emergency First Aid/Level “C” CPR
- May be assigned or required to participate in specialized teams, including obtaining and maintaining HAZMAT/CBRN training and certification.
- Must be willing to work a combination of shifts based on organizational needs: day shift consisting of Monday to Friday (70 hours bi-weekly) or a rotating 12-hour shift working two days, two nights followed by four days off.
- Required to work outside in all weather conditions.
