Wildland Fire Operations Coordinator

Due to the diverse coordination responsibilities of CIFFC, the Operations Coordinator will be required to work weekends and extended hours with limited notice as dictated by wildland fire activity, and travel will be required.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Chair the CIFFC Equipment Working Group (EWG) and support the Safety, Health and Wellness Community of Practice.
- Work closely with the Director of Operations to align the EWG work plan with the Resource Management Committee’s work plan.
- Foster a cooperative, collaborative environment amongst member agency representatives and provide a forum in which agencies come together for advancing equipment standardization in Canada.
- Coordinate EWG project charters and manage project teams.
- Facilitate the collection and dissemination of agency equipment information related to field operations, maintenance, training, etc.
- Organize national meetings and ad-hoc symposia in response to identified equipment issues.
- Work collaboratively with agency personnel to develop an overall proactive safety culture for fire management personnel.
- Maintain a general knowledge of safety, health and wellness legislation and act as a resource on same for CIFFC staff and members.
- Develop a process or system to track, analyze, and identify injury/accident trends in wildland fire management.
- Coordinate with the Director of Operations and Training Manager to address identified safety concerns and trends.
- Work with the Director of Operations to review and develop robust safety plans for international deployments, both to and from Canada.
- When requested, represent CIFFC and Canadian interests at national and international meetings, workshops, and conferences to promote the activities of CIFFC.
- At the request of the Coordination Centre Manager, support the review of equipment and safety sections of the Mutual Aid and Resource Sharing (MARS) implementation guidelines and other operating plans associated with International Arrangements.
- Collaborate and consult with the Coordination Centre Manager and EWG members regarding recommended changes to streamline equipment related resource mobilizations and demobilizations.
- Liaise with the CIFFC Training Manager to provide Subject Matter Expert input into national training curricula for safety and equipment related issues.
- Respond to requests for information from CIFFC member agencies.
- Provide other coordination duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
- Under the direction of the Coordination Centre Manager, participate in the Aviation Coordinator or Duty Officer role as required, and take the lead role in the CREP program.

**Knowledge and Skills**
- Graduate from a recognized university or college in Renewable Resource Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Understanding of operational wildland fire activities.
- Understanding of tools and equipment used in wildland fire management.
- Awareness of safety, health, and wellness challenges and mitigation strategies.
- Strong working and operational knowledge of CIFFC is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Demonstrated proficiency in presentation design and delivery.
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and written) in Canada’s two official languages (English and French) preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders, both internally and externally.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability in taking initiative and working well under limited supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with private and sensitive information.
- Demonstrated ability to manage change and achieve results.
