Harbour Office and Yard Maintenance Supervisor

Position Description:
Under the direction of a Club Officer, the Harbour Office and Yard Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our harbour office, docks and yards (including dock adjacent washrooms, boat and mast storage yards) and directs other seasonal staff to help carry out the duties and responsibilities listed below.

This is a hands-on and customer-oriented position requiring good interpersonal and supervisory skills in addition to strong equipment operation and maintenance experience. The Supervisor is also expected to maintain a clean, positive, and safe environment for members and staff, and overseeing best practices for safe and efficient work.

The role calls for keen observational skills and reporting of situations out of the ordinary. Eg, chemical or fuel spills, property damage, keeping an eye on weather and taking precautions to avoid injuries and property damage.

This is a full-time position, with approximately 40 hours per week, from mid-April to end of October with shoulder weeks noted to be flexible hours.

**Harbour Office responsibilities include**:
High Season Priorities:

- training, scheduling and supervision of summer student staff,
- gas and diesel fueling of boats and DYC equipment,
- fuel additives,
- pump-outs,
- management of transient boater reservations and dock assignments,
- DYC routine equipment maintenance:

- fee collection from west side short-term transient boaters,
- cleaning of east and west side washrooms,
- garbage collection and disposal from east side, west side and yard area,

Shoulder Season Priorities:

- barbeque care, maintenance and propane tank replacement,
- yard and grounds grass and weed maintenance,
- yard water system maintenance,
- dock maintenance and repairs
- Club owned vessel repairs and maintenance
- club house repairs

**Yard and Docks**:
Harbour Office responsibilities are the priority during the busy summer weeks, but time must be managed to include maintenance of our lawns, gardens and storage yards. During the shoulder weeks, more time is available for special projects, launch/haul out, fleet maintenance, travel lift operational support and training, dock repairs and other duties.

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

- Strong customer service, supervisory and interpersonal skills
- Good record keeping and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead others through influence and example.
- Possess high levels of enthusiasm, energy, and self-motivated to work unsupervised.
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
- Mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge or willingness to learn marina operations and safety practices.
- Familiarity with marine operation of powerboats
- Carpentry skills plus general knowledge of plumbing and electrical.
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOP)+ Restricted Radiotelephone Operator’s Certificate (Marine) (ROC(M)) for VHF radio communication (or ability to obtain these within the first 30 days on the job).
- G drivers’ license and own transportation.
- Strong team player & cognizant of DYC policies & procedures.
- Unlimited or unimpaired ability to walk, bend, stoop, climb on a ladder, and work safely around water,

Minimum Job requirements
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn Point of Sale software
- Ability to speak effectively with customers, direct reports, peers, and club administrator.
- Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations safely and expediently
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- A valid driver’s license and insurance.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- CPR and AED certification preferred, or ability to obtain within first 30 days
- Ability to swim
- This position is required to work as scheduled and may include weekends and holiday work.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 7 months

**Salary**: $20.00-$26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
