Dock Worker

Hartrans Cartage Services is a local, Peterborough-based trucking company offering local LTL final mile services as well as TL, dedicated courier and dedicated flatbed/Moffat services to other carriers and local shippers.

We are currently looking for a Dock Worker/Planner/Forklift Operator. As a valuable member of the team, working to ensure customer satisfaction, smooth dock operations, efficient loading & departure of drivers and company success, your key responsibilities may include:

- Sorting freight bills into efficient delivery runs taking into account geography, equipment needs and appointments.
- Loading and unloading inbound and outbound trucks and trailers safely and efficiently by forklift, pallet jack or manually as required.
- Staging and sorting freight that cannot be immediately loaded on an outbound truck/trailer.
- Documenting overages, shortages and damages, and cubing freight.
- Keeping the dock area tidy and organized.
- Following all Health & Safety, TDG and Company regulations and policies.
- Communicating regularly with Dispatch and Customer Service, and reporting any issues/concerns promptly.
- Shunt trailers in/out of the dock doors as required.
- Doing dock checks
- Doing occasional deliveries if required to ensure service
- Covering for other dock shifts when they are absent.
- Other related duties as required.
- Have a minimum of Secondary education.
- Good knowledge of geography in Eastern Ontario and especially within 160 km radius of Peterborough.
- Have a strong work ethic, good English communication skills, attention to detail, organizational & time management skills.
- Be described as punctual, dedicated and hard working.
- Be willing and able to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Have previous experience in an LTL environment.
- Have previous forklift experience.
- Have previous shunting experience.
- Be able to work efficiently with little to no supervision and is self-motivated.
- Have a good memory for details.
- Be safety and customer service oriented.
- Be able to multi-task and prioritize workload.
- Minimum G-class license for at least 3 years.
- Have a professional attitude and work well with others.

This is a physically demanding, fast-paced environment that requires lifting, lowering and carrying freight, as well as a lot of time on your feet on a cement dock floor.
