**) Faculty, Simulated Participant Educator Lead**. The SP Educator Lead will work closely with the Manager to support the educational simulation needs of the School of Health Sciences (SOHS). This position will develop education programs for simulated participants (SPs) for the SoHS programs, and participate in overseeing and training the work of simulated participants used in the educational programs, to include recruiting, training, assigning work, and performing quality assessment of the SPs. This position will also be responsible for providing orientation of faculty, staff and students to SP methodology. The SP Lead is expected to collaborate and partner on simulation initiatives with other simulation educators and instructors across the SoHS.- The SP Educator Lead is highly motivated, self directed, and collaborative. This position, in collaboration with the Simulation Team, will lead strategic directions for the SoHS and the development and evolution of simulation-based education. The work will take place primarily on the Burnaby campus.**Duties & Responsibilities**

**Leadership**:
- Demonstrate ability to function as a strong, inspirational leader capable of motivating and mentoring others to action.
- Uphold best practice standards and current evidence in simulation - ASPE standards, accreditation standards, patient safety, and quality improvement.
- Promotes a learning culture and implements mechanisms to engage faculty/staff in a unified approach to SP simulation.
- Develops and implements the SP program and methods for assessment of SP’s.
- Develops and implements continuous quality improvement activities for the SP program
**Curriculum Development**:
- Acts as an expert resource when collaborating with faculty in the integration of simulation into curricula adhering to best practice standards in SP simulation-based education.
- Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles, assessment strategies and simulation-related theory and practices.
- Collects and analyses data for annual SP evaluations under the guidance of the SoHS Simulation Educator leadership.
- Prepares, updates and maintains database of cases, materials and assessment tools.
- Monitors SP exercises for SP portrayal and documentation accuracy in student performance (quality assurance).
**Facilitation**:
- Models best practices when pre-briefing, facilitating, SP feedback and debriefing simulation activities.
- Orients faculty, staff and students to SP spaces, policies and procedures.
- Supervises the training of all simulated participants (workshops) in all aspects of case portrayal, checklist item recognition, physical exam procedures and exam operations.
- Maintains effective communication with staff, faculty, and students associated with SP Program activities.
- Gives on-going feedback to SPs and remediates SP performance based on feedback.
- Participates in health professions’ physical exam instruction and trains and monitors SP’s for physical examination
**Faculty Development**:
- In collaboration with the SoHS simulation team, assures ongoing development and competence of educators working with SPs.
- Designs, develops and updates workshop materials for faculty for SP integration, including SP content for the Simulation Faculty Pathway (SimPath) as required.
- Assists in evaluating and developing SP material for simulation educators.
- Provides effective mentorship and coaching for novice and developing faculty.
**Operations**:
- Collaborates with Simulation Manager and Simulation Leads to operationalize SP simulation activities.
- Identifies budgetary needs for implementing SP simulation education activities.
- Recruits and assists in supervising simulated participants (SPs), to include providing initial and ongoing training and documented assessment of SP participation, describing and assigning work of SPs, and performing quality assessments.
- Organizes, rooms and equipment (task trainers and simulators) set up for the SP Simulation Scenarios.
**Scholarship**
- Demonstrates a commitment to supporting all faculty for ongoing personal development of SP simulation expertise (formal and informal learning opportunities) and scholarship activities.
- Attends and participates in appropriate organizational workshops to keep current on educational theory and practice in the use of simulation and simulated participants in health science education.
**Service**
- Is an effective team member on committees, special projects, task forces.
**Qualifications**
**QUALIFICATIONS***:
- Master’s degree in education, health profession, or related field required.
- Completion of SP Educator courses, certificates and workshops
- Five years recent, related experience in simulation, SP scenario development, and SP training workshops.
- Experience recruiting, managing and administrating a pool of SPs.
