**Duties**:
Deliver education programs, guided tours, dialogic or conversational interpretation, and demonstrate historic activities to the general public as a senior Heritage Presenter.
Plans, adapts, develops, and delivers engaging and exciting interpretive presentations, programs and activities to provide visitors opportunities to discover, learn, and enjoy the site. Participates in staff recruitment; schedules and supervises the work of heritage presenters, students, and volunteers; trains and orients new and existing staff, volunteers as well as the student heritage presenters on a seasonal basis. Play a crucial role on the team that manages an exciting and dynamic visitor program.
Coordinates with local stakeholders, committees, and cooperating associations to determine client interpretation needs and discuss interpretation program objectives, content, and delivery.
**Work environment**:
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.
HMCS Haida is Canada’s most decorated warship, and last remaining Tribal Class destroyer in the world. The ship was commissioned in 1943 and participated in many important missions during her 20 year career, including the Murmansk Run, the clearing of the English Channel in preparation of the D-Day landings, and two tours of duty in Korea. Today, the ship is berthed in Hamilton harbour, and welcomes visitors from all around the world, connecting people to Canada's naval history and the contributions of all who served.
**Intent of the process**:
Term / Seasonal - 0.8 FTE (42 weeks) between February and December.
The season for this position at HMCS Haida NHS is 42 weeks; for the 2023 season, the contract will begin in July and run into October.

EDUCATION:
A minimum of 2 years post-secondary education or acceptable combination of education, training, experience.
Note: Acceptable combination of education, training and experience:
A secondary school diploma or PSC approved alternatives; AND
- Successful completion of a minimum of three (3) courses relevant to the duties of the position (e.g., courses taken through continuing education facilities, colleges, universities, professional or governmental organizations or employers including training provided by Aboriginal elders or group that may include but are not limited to courses in heritage interpretation, communications, public speaking, performing arts); AND
- A minimum of twelve (12) months experience working in the fields of education, interpretation, and/or outreach-communications.
Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in the development and delivery of interpretive programs for a wide range of audiences using a variety of presentation techniques.
- Experience in leading a team in a supervisory capacity.
