The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is a dynamic hub in downtown Toronto. It provides opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to be active, learn, connect, and participate in a wide range of cultural experiences. Rooted in Jewish values, the MNjcc is open to all.

Founded on this site in 1953 the MNjcc is home to a state-of-the-art Fitness Centre, the Al Green Theatre, four schools, four choirs, a wide range of arts and cultural activities, Jewish Life programming, and a robust Active 55+ program. It is a founding member of the Bloor Street Cultural Corridor.

**Short Description of the Position**:
Working within the Thomas & Marjorie Schwartz Preschool Centre (TMSPC), the Early Childhood Assistant will work with other educators to observe children and implement a stimulating program for the children, while engaging in open communication with parents and other stakeholders.

**Changes due to Covid-19 Pandemic**:

- Early Childhood Assistant may be designated to stay with ill children in isolation room until parents or caregivers come for their child. Staff will be equipped with masks, visors, gloves, and a smock to ensure the health and safety of the staff.
- Early Childhood Assistant will disinfect any surfaces touched by child in isolation room immediately after child leaving.
- Early Childhood Assistant will disinfect bathroom surfaces (sink and toilet) after it has been used by a child.
- Early Childhood Assistant schedules will fluctuate during this period. Regular work hours may not apply.

**Schedule**:

- Staff must be available for all mandatory ECE staff meetings.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Ensure the safety of all children in attendance at the childcare.
- Always maintain a clean and safe environment for children.
- Communicate with the Assistant Director regarding any areas of concern regarding health and safety of children as well as concerns with specific children.
- Get to know each child individually to instill confidence, encourage creativity and cognitive skills, master social skills.
- Assist and supervise the children with the daily routines as required (meals, naps, diapering/toileting, transitions, playground, and gym time, during programming time etc.).
- Ensure classroom documents are up to date (cleaning logs, attendances, etc.)
- Work in tandem with other educators to ensure the health and safety of the children and program areas are maintained.

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- Please note that full vaccination against covid-19 (or valid accommodation) is currently required to work in-person at the MNjcc at this time
- Clear vulnerable sector screening (done within 6 months of start date with us)
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR level C
- Ability to communicate easily and professionally with parents and other staff
- Able to provide references
- Current Food Handlers certificate or willing to obtain

**Main Competencies**:

- Preference will be given to ECAs with previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or Child Directed Learning program.
- Knowledge of ELECT and How Does Learning Happen? is an asset.
