The Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) is a fully accredited healthcare organization located in the beautiful community of Goderich on the shores of Lake Huron. AMGH is the largest provider of acute care hospital services in Huron County. With an annual budget of $25M, AMGH offers a range of services including 24 hour emergency, intensive care, obstetrics, general surgery, inpatient adult psychiatry and multi-site community mental health. The organization hosts a comprehensive range of specialty and regional healthcare services such as a renal dialysis satellite and telestroke site.
**About The South Huron Hospital (SHH)**:
The South Huron Hospital (SHH) was established in 1953 and serves a wide catchment area, including the Municipality of South Huron and its adjacent communities.
Located in a small, rural community, we are proud to offer a 24/7 Emergency Department. With 19 inpatient beds, we provide acute, rehabilitation, and complex continuing inpatient care. Our outpatient services encompass the continuum of care as we strive to meet the evolving needs of our patients and surrounding communities.
**Position Description**:
The incumbent will be responsible for the development, administration and implementation of programs and services related to patient flow, safety and IPAC measures across the Hospital.
The incumbent will be knowledgeable with current legislation and trends related to IPAC and fostering internal and external communications with all stakeholders. The position supports and improves the quality of health care through the implementation of best practices in the areas of Infection Prevention and Control and operational patient flow processes.
**Qualifications**:
- Current registration with CNO as a Registered Nurse
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred or a defined commitment to obtaining such
- Courses in Health Care Administration an asset
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
- Thorough understanding of related and pending legislation
- Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred
- BCLS certification preferred
**Required Skills**:
- 3 years' experience working in IPAC
- A minimum of 3 years in healthcare
- Demonstrated progressively responsible work with at least 3-5 years supervisory/management experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles of occupational health required
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles of IPAC
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues and to establish collaborative working relationships
- Ability to prepare correspondence and reports
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrate initiative and good judgement in problem solving identify opportunities for action
- Demonstrated computer proficiency
- Effective time management skills
- Excellent verbal, written and facilitative skills
- Flexible, adaptable and professional demeanor
- Proven organizational, teaching and presentation skills
**Responsibilities**:
- Promote awareness of evidence based/best practices in relation to patient safety and IPAC
- Ensure excellence in patient care and service delivery though continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring, and risk avoidance
- Support hospital Quality Improvement projects, identify risk management issues, and use results to implement change
- Initiate and lead patient flow strategies across the organization to problem solve flow and occupancy pressures in a collaborative approach with internal and external stakeholders
- Provide daily operational support of bed management through the on-going communication and coordination with Admitting Clerk, for Admission, Discharge and Transfer of all in-patients
- Consult with the Clinical Managment, Admitting Clerk, and other stakeholders, when necessary to ensure appropriateness of bed assignment
- Act as a resource for clinical staffing between units and provide administrative support with the coordination of clinical staff
- Support clinical management, scheduler, and other stakeholder with reviewing unit needs in relation to staffing to ensure effective operations
- Acts as a primary resource person to management and staff on matters pertaining to Infection Prevention and Control
- Participate in daily bed round meeting with clinical managers, charge nurse and report on demand, patient safety and IPAC, brining relevant information forward
