**About the role**

We’re looking for an **Underwriter I or II **to join our growing **Contract Surety **team in the GTA

**What you’ll do here**:

- Manage a diverse portfolio of contract surety accounts
- Review and interpret financial statements and the Act/Law associated with the bond type
- Assess risk and appropriately recommend approval of new and renewing contract surety facilities
- Build partnerships with brokers and clients, delivering surety solutions at the account level in a professional and responsive manner
- Develop broker relationships and marketing strategies to further new business development opportunities
- Prioritize workflow to maximize productivity and meet deadlines
- Assist in the preparation and submission of special acceptances to reinsurers
- Maintain quality control and profitable growth
- Maintain a strong knowledge of construction industry trends, market conditions, and current challenges and opportunities
- Actively participate in industry functions, forums and events

**What you bring to the table**:

- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance or combination of education and relevant experience
- 1-2 years of surety or related business experience, and/or experience in a commercial insurance underwriting or brokerage capacity (2-3 years for Underwriter II)
- Solid understanding of financial statements
- Strong analytical and research skills
- A history of providing excellent customer service and sound judgment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with co-workers in a team setting
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite of products
