Whitby, Canada The Salvation Army Durham Housing Services- Overnight Warming Programs Full time

The Caseworker position will work with the Salvation Army Durham Housing Services to provide people who are experiencing homelessness in Durham Region with emergency overnight shelter support. The position entails providing supports to clients and is an overnights awake position.

Program tasks include:
**Facilitate intake of clients.**

**Initial COVID-19 Screening.**

**Nightly client check-in and ongoing monitoring.**

**Documenting client admission, housing plan and discharge.**

**Discharging clients at end of shift**

**Assessing client needs.**

**Crisis intervention in response to mental health or compliance.**

**Promote a comfortable and safe environment where clients can rest for the night, safe from the elements.**

**Facilitate orientation for Clients by taking basic, required information, provide any requested information, orient Clients to program regulations and schedules.**

**Data entry of all required data fields in HIFIS.**

**Report any safety issues that arise to the site supervisor.**

**Link participants with housing, health and social services/supports (internal and external referrals).**

**Provide crisis counselling and one-on-one support as needed.**

**Ensure facility is kept sanitized as per Public Health Guidelines.**

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
**College diploma in Social Sciences field, Personal Support Work, or equivalent experience (minimum).**
Previous experience with people experiencing homelessness as asset.
**Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of homelessness issues.**
Knowledge and understanding of Mental Health/Addictions.
**Thorough knowledge and understanding of and a commitment to anti-racism,anti-oppression and equity.**
Problem solving skills essential. The responsibilities associated with this position demand a high degree of confidentiality.
**Excellent oral and written communication skills (computer skills essential).**
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
**Must have good interpersonal/time management skills.**
Good knowledge of community resources.

COVID-19 considerations:
