**POSITION FUNCTION**:
An Employment Counsellor is a professional dedicated to assisting individuals in their career journeys, offering guidance, support, and resources to help clients achieve their employment goals, using an action plan as a tool.

Though these are the primary responsibilities of the role, there is an expectation that regular Employment Counsellor duties may be performed based on operational needs. These additional duties may include completing intakes, assessing job seekers’ skills and interests, developing resumes, preparing for interviews, and exploring suitable career opportunities.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Review and assess client eligibility for WorkBC training programs based on program criteria and individual needs and make recommendations for appropriate training options.
- Conduct financial needs assessments with clients to evaluate their need for support services such as transportation, tuition, and necessary books and supplies, ensuring they have the necessary resources to successfully engage in training opportunities.
- Calculate living supports amount, where appropriate, based on completed financial needs assessment.
- Collect and manage attendance reports, transcripts and certificates for clients engaged in various interventions, uploading, and updating these records in ICM.
- Work closely with clients from the time they graduate from training programs to ensure they find sustainable employment within the same NOC within six months. This may involve direct support from the employment counsellor or a referral to a job developer, depending on the client's specific needs and circumstances.
- Ensure that upon completion of training, clients engaged in training programs have their NOC accurately matched with their subsequent employment to ensure that we meet the Ministry’s key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Maintain an organized and current client caseload, including managing follow up in a timely manner.
- Develop and revise of action plan steps for clients, collaborating with clients to agree and commitment to on their objectives, services, activities, and tasks.
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities to stay informed about changes and updates to WorkBC training programs and policies, and to enhance skills and knowledge related to career counselling and job search support.
- Gain a thorough understanding of the Authorization to Quit and Section 25 processes, as well as processes for clients currently receiving Employment Assistance benefits.
- Gain knowledge of local labour market trends, community resources, the needs of job seekers and employers, and effective ways to bridge their respective needs.
