**The Role**:
The Family Connector (FC) provides in-home and community-based support to marginalized children and families who have Children’s Services involvement. This includes a significant proportion of First Nations, Metis and Inuit families, as well as, Refugee and first-generation Canadian families that have experienced the impacts of trauma and multigenerational abuse and neglect. Family Connectors build therapeutic relationships with parents through the use of basic counselling skills and a trauma informed care approach; thereby increasing capacity and executive functioning. The FC identifies, strengthens, and reconnects relationships with family, kin, and friends in an effort to create a plan that addresses long term support for the wellbeing, reunification and safety of the children. FCs work as a member of a collaborative team and are ultimately responsible for the coordination, initiation and mobilization of internal and external resources required to meet the service plan objective as determined with Children’s Services and the families we work with.
**Qualifications**:
- Degree in Human Services Field, with related experience
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with families
- Experience working with Child & Family Services and CSD beneficial
- Experience working with families from diverse cultures, especially Indigenous families Requires knowledge of and competence in delivering Trauma Informed Care
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
**Mandatory Requirements**:
- Police Check and Child Welfare Intervention
- Record Check completed within the last 6 months
- Current ASIST Suicide Intervention Training
- Registration with a professional body, if eligible (such as RSW)
- ASIST Suicide Intervention Training and First Aid-Level C CPR, required within 3 months of start date
- Valid class 5 driver’s licence, reliable vehicle for daily use and liability insurance, as well as a 5 year driver abstract

**Key Responsibilities**:
- Using a Trauma Informed Care approach, support the reunification of children to their parents, families, culture and community
- Initiate and facilitate family support network meetings and service providers meetings with involved professionals to plan, review or process necessary information
- Assess ongoing risk for children and families receiving services as per the Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act (CYFEA)
- Support Indigenous children and parents to connect with their culture and follow protocol when participating in ceremony with them
- Completion of formal documentation and ensuring file standards are met; inclusion of the voice of the family in documentation
- Attend staff meetings, service team meetings, trainings and supervision meetings as required Work within a flexible schedule which includes evening and weekend work regularly
- Provide on-call support to families 24/7 on a rotational basis
