Labourer

Job Summary:
The Infrastructure Labourer is responsible in conducting general labour and maintenance duties as directed by the Foreperson or designate. This includes grass cutting, tree and brush removal, weed removal, garbage pickup, sweeping, signage, road maintenance, winter control, road construction and road patrol.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

- Comply with and perform duties in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
- Follow the defined process in the collective bargaining agreement for work assignment, discipline, vacation, hours of work, overtime, leaves of absence etc.
- Follow prescribed health and safety procedures including wearing personal protective equipment, and operate equipment safely and competently.
- General labour and maintenance duties may include, but are not limited to tree and brush cutting and chipping, sign maintenance, patching operations, road maintenance, sweeping, grass cutting, shoveling, raking, lifting, cleaning, weed removal, garbage pickup, general vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Confirm that all utility locates are attached to assigned Work Orders.
- Accurately record the daily operations completed as per the defined practices/ policies, procedures of the department including details of work performed and equipment used.
- Accurately inform the Foreperson or designate on the day’s progress of assigned duties.
- Attend regular tailgate meetings to review Township’s policies and SOPs to ensure compliance.
- Report all known or suspected violations of the Township bylaws to the Manager/ Foreperson or designate
- Report all known or suspected Health and Safety concerns to the Foreperson / Director or designate.
- On call and available at all times to be able to respond to emergencies.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the Director or Foreperson or designate.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

- Minimum three (3) years’ experience as a general labourer preferably in construction.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid unrestricted Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License
- Effective verbal, oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to deal effectively with people in difficult situations
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Chainsaw experience would be an asset
- WHMIS
