The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta is one of Canada’s leading academic health centres for pediatric specialty and subspecialty education and research. **Position**
This position will work both independently and in a team environment for Dr. Jason Dyck and collaborate with the CVRC Animal Physiology Core. They will be responsible for providing support and technical assistance for ongoing research projects by performing highly technical microsurgical procedures on various rodent models, echocardiography, data analysis, technical training to students, and maintenance of CVRC and various labs. They will also write ACUC Ethics Protocols, maintain accurate records of procedures, animals, and inventories, and attend and participate in laboratory meetings.
**Duties**
- Coordinate and monitor research work plans.
- Develop new experiments and techniques.
- Modify and develop new protocols for existing experiments to meet research objectives.
- Independently conduct research, data and statistical analysis, and present findings.
- Provide research assistance to CVRC members.
- Work with and supervise staff and /or students.
- Purchase lab equipment and supplies.
- Technical resource for lab, collaborators, and other investigators.
- Perform complex microsurgery, pre and post-op. care of animals.
- Removal of tissues, blood sampling, and administration of various drugs as per protocols.
- Conduct literature searches.
- Prioritize time-sensitive tasks to meet deadlines.
- Fully responsible for maintenance and operation of the equipment used by this position.
**Minimum Qualifications**
- University bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- At least 5 years of combined experience with mouse echocardiography and heart surgery.
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Proven attention to detail.
- Proven ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Strong time management skills, and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
