Under the direction of the Manger, Imaging Services and supervision of the Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs all aspects of a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment. Participates in teaching new technical staff all procedures pertaining to the Division of Nuclear Medicine. Participates in the training of student technologists.

Within this role the Nuclear Medicine Technologist is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.

**PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**:
Hot Lab:

- Responsible for the elution of generator and the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals. Ensure proper documentation of radioisotope administration.
- Responsible for quality control of radiopharmaceuticals. Responsible for quality control of instruments such as dose calibrators and uptake probe.
- Responsible for the receipt and inventory of radioisotopes. Maintain radioactive waste documentation and disposal records. Ensure that hot lab is clean and orderly with adequate supplies available.
- Responsible for proper patient identification, verification of patient pregnancy or breast feeding, explanation of procedure and administration of radiopharmaceuticals and radioactive therapies.
- Responsible for patient preparation, positioning and use of proper techniques as outlined in procedure manual or as requested by Nuclear Medicine radiologist to perform general nuclear medicine imaging and SPECT/CT acquisition, image processing, data storage and management on workstations and database management in PACS. Operation of ECG patient monitor and uptake probe. Responsible for assisting cardiologist and cardiology technologists during treadmill and pharmaceutical stress testing procedures.
- Communicates with inpatient and emergency units to organize imaging requests and procedure times, booking inpatient transportation. Documentation in patient chart.
- Scanning room stocking of supplies/linen, equipment cleaning. Scanning room maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Following KHSC Radiation Safety Manual policies and CNSC regulations will maintain the Nuclear Medicine area in a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follow best practices for working with radioisotopes in the Hot Lab and scanning rooms.
- Patient care including recognizing deteriorating patient condition or an emergency event.
- Responsible for identifying performance problems with nuclear medicine equipment and notifying the appropriate personnel.
- Participate in orientation training of new staff and training of student Nuclear Medicine Technologists.
- The employee adheres to responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept/unit established procedures at all time. The employee will also adhere to supervisor responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act exercising all reasonable precautions for the protection of worker health & safety which includes but is not limited to:

- Being aware of workplace hazards and communicating to staff
- Where appropriate, following up on reported employee workplace injuries/incidents to identify and address immediate hazards.
- Controlling immediate hazards through the implementation of corrective measures/improvements
- Ensuring staff are performing their job duties safely and following up as appropriate to ensure safety of all workers

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Active registration with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario Nuclear Medicine required.
- Registered with CAMRT preferred.
- Registered with OAMRT preferred.
- Current Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certificate preferred.
- Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient with medical terminology.
- Ability to communicate with a high level of professionalism in interpersonal relations.
- Evidence of strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize; work under pressure and show flexibility.
- Must have strong independent decision making skills with a high level of initiative.
- Discretion and maturity in handling confidential matters.
- Demonstrated computer knowledge, proficiency with an electronic hospital information system, PACS and patient transport system.
- 3 years of experience in the past 5 years including hot lab experience.
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check required.
