Under the direction of the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging, or designate, the Tech Assistant performs a crucial role in the operations and workflow of the department. This position will assist our Technologists in helping to improve effectiveness and efficiency which in turn is expected to improve patient experience and staff experience in providing quality patient care in Diagnostic Imaging. This role is integral in connecting processes and people from various departments in order to streamline and optimize care for our patients at Kingston Health Sciences Centre.

The Tech Assistant organizes their work and fulfills the responsibilities of the position with a high degree of autonomy within established guidelines, standards, and procedures. Clinical direction and support are provided by the Charge Technologist, Senior Technologist and Medical Radiation Technologists within the department.

Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre mission, vision, and values. **PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**:

- Performs as a member of the healthcare interdisciplinary team delegated to assist the Technologists in Diagnostic Imaging. Assists in the day to day operation of the department. Ensures prompt and safe service that meets accuracy, reliability, and quality standards. Prepares patients for their exams by giving them proper forms to fill out, and having them changed into proper hospital attire. Assists patients to fill out forms as needed. Facilitates the flow of patients in and out of the scan rooms. Orders and stocks necessary supplies for the area they are working in. Stocking linens in the imaging areas and disposing of dirty linens as needed. Ensures the imaging area is prepped and cleaned for the next patient or the next day. Collaborates daily with Radiologists, Technologists, Nurses, patients, care givers, families, clerical staff, porters, and other KHSC staff. Assists in patient transfers as part of imaging exams and procedures.
- Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities in the department.
- Maintains patient and hospital confidentiality.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the job classification as required (including supporting Diagnostic Imaging across all sites and modalities)
- The employee adheres to responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept. /unit established procedures at all time. The employee will also adhere to supervisor responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act exercising all reasonable precautions for the protection of worker health & safety which includes but is not limited to:

- Being aware of workplace hazards and communicating to staff
- Where appropriate, following up on reported employee workplace injuries/incidents to identify and address immediate hazards.
- Controlling immediate hazards through the implementation of corrective measures/improvements
- Ensuring staff are performing their job duties safely and following up as appropriate to ensure safety of all workers
- Understands and is familiar with all pertinent KHSC policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct. Complies with KHSC’s commitment to uphold the Workplace Conduct and Reporting of Inappropriate Conduct policy and behaves in a manner that is consistent with the guiding principles and expectations of the Hospital At all times.

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Completion, or in progress, of a college level diploma in healthcare related field is required.
- Demonstrated computer literacy (e.g., Outlook, Microsoft Office).
- Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology is required.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to cope with the mental and physician demands of the role
- Demonstrated professionalism.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and assess priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrate communication to continued professional development and personal growth and development through continuing education and self-directed learning opportunities.
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search is required.
