**two (2) Violence Prevention Specialists **to join the Human Resources Workplace Health and Safety team. The positions are flexible anywhere within the Interior Health region

**About the role**:
The Violence Prevention Specialist participates as a key member of the Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) Health, Safety, and Prevention team and provides training, advice, and guidance around violence prevention.

In addition, the Violence Prevention Specialist will review metrics, provide feedback and support the Lead, Heath, Safety & Prevention in meeting the organization's violence prevention and other identified training opportunities

Some key duties:

- Provides input and assists in the implementation of the organizations violence prevention strategy and evaluate and provide feedback on current policies, work procedures, and education & training.
- Responsible for the implementation of various Violence Prevention education programs across the organization and provide updates to the Lead, Health, Safety & Prevention on areas of compliance risk, through the development of timelines and recommendations for the violence prevention program activities.
- Facilitates in-person training to the organization and protection services officers as they onboard, in Trauma Informed Practise through a train-the-trainer model.
- Supports the implementation of Ministry’s Workforce Violence Prevention Policy Directive and framework, including the review and summary of reporting required for the Ministry’s Health and Safety Unit.
- Reviews violence related reporting, audits and risk assessments to monitor the ongoing effectiveness and objectives of the Violence Prevention program.
- Works with the wider Workplace Health & Safety team to develop a communication strategy to ensure success of Violence Prevention program training and education objectives.
- Liaises with site and department managers, supervisors, and staff around the analysis of violence data and supports them in the development of specific action plans to address unique issues.
- Uses a health and safety management system framework to guide IH into adopting a systemic approach to building a culture of health and safety that extends beyond regulatory compliance.
- Provides technical advice and guidance to the workplace health and safety leadership team around the violence prevention program and WSBC interpretation.
- Participates and represent IH perspectives in provincial and/or organizational initiatives as assigned (e.g., provincial projects, research initiatives, and provincial and internal working groups or committees).
- Performs other related training and education duties as assigned.

**Education, Training, and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (e.g. OH&S).
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of related progressive health and safety experience in a large complex organization. Experience in developing programs and performing audit risk assessments along with providing violence prevention training is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered.

**Skills and Abilities**
- Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and achievements relating to the prevention of violence in the workplace.
- Knowledge of current health and safety legislation, regulations, and statutes around violence.
- Working knowledge, understanding, and expertise in violence prevention including Trauma-Informed

Practice principles.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and delegate work to meet deadlines.
- Skilled facilitator in violence prevention education and training.
- Exhibit a passion for safe and healthy workplaces and possess the expertise and vision to enhance

our workplace violence prevention initiatives and programs.
- Ability to adapt and be flexible to changing priorities and demands.
- Ability to work interdependently and be guided by standards of practice, WorkSafeBC regulations, and Interior Health standards.
- Collaborative problem-solving and critical decision-making experience that reflects a preventative

focus.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and engage others to ensure success in the workplace.
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a tea
